As a member of Toronto finance team, the Financial Analyst will report to the Finance Manager and have the opportunity to work in various parts of the company, including operations, estimating, and procurement. This role is a hybrid between financial reporting, financial planning, analysis and exposure to internal controls. The successful candidate will be supporting with monthly financial reporting, forecasting, and annual business planning for the special projects business unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the monthly financial reporting and forecast package for senior management
  • Report precise work in progress and percentage of completion of construction projects
  • Calculate KPIs for each operating unit to monitor cash collection, billing targets, and margins
  • Prepare revenue and margin variance analysis to understand significant financial risks or opportunities
  • Collaborate with project teams to improve the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of their reporting and forecasting
  • Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts, ensuring cash resources meet working capital requirements and optimize interest income and cash discounts
  • Analyze monthly P&L forecast and provide financial insight to Controller and Vice President, Special Projects
  • Assist senior management in preparing the annual 5-Year business plan
  • Evaluate internal controls and provide suggestions for process improvements
  • Assist with the external audit process
  • Mentor junior staff
  • Ad-hoc projects and analysis as required

Education & Experience

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • 2 - 3 years of experience in finance and accounting function
  • Public accounting firm or industry experience in real estate/construction preferred
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA/CPA, CA) or in-progress
  • Experience with ERP systems (such as NetSuite, SAP, and Oracle) is considered an asset

Required Skills

  • Ability to build effective and productive working relationships across operating units and within the finance team
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate analytical findings into recommendations and process improvements
  • Maintain positive customer interactions and value the customer experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both verbally and written
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proven ability to work independently under minimal supervision as well as in a team environment
  • Resourceful, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Be organized, results-driven and deadline-oriented
  • Self-motivated and proactive in managing workload and professional development
