Role
The role of the IT Enterprise Architect is to enable business and IT leaders to make investment decisions that balance and prioritize current operational demands, take advantage of disruptions and opportunities with the longer-term strategic vision of the organization. The IT Enterprise Architect provides technology guidance and road maps, principles, standards, and best practices to deliver and maintain the technology strategic roadmap.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provides overall direction, guidance, and definition of IT architecture, to effectively support the corporate business strategy.
- Supports all architectural disciplines and champions architectural initiatives.
- Leads programs to develop, maintain and govern the enterprise information architecture across the organization including data governance and data management.
- Aligns architecture strategy with business goals to influence overall IT strategy and timing.
- Defines, explains, and advocates technology strategy across the enterprise.
- Develops and communicates architectural policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
- Promotes the Enterprise Architecture (EA) process, outcomes, and results to the organization and senior leadership.
- Develops a communication plan for architecture at the enterprise level and participates in IT steering committee as needed to advocate and influence.
- Directs the research and evaluation of emerging technology, industry, and market trends.
- Ensures recommendations are based on business relevance, appropriate timing, and deployment.
- Leads and facilitates the creation of governing principles to guide EA decision-making.
- Establishes the EA review board and leads the EA governance process.
- Manages exceptions to architectural standards at an enterprise level.
- Reviews and/or analyzes and develops architectural requirements as needed, for the organization.
- Ensures the conceptual completeness of technical solutions.
- Leads teams in developing technology plans.
- Provides strategic consultation to business and IT leaders.
- Advises on options, risks, costs versus benefits, system impacts and technology priorities.
- Works with business leaders to understand business requirements and help them understand how technology tradeoffs influence strategy.
- Works with senior leadership to approve allocation of budget to meet architectural initiatives critical to business/mission success.
- Ensures architecture and solutions address compliance programs requirements such as HIPPA, PCI, etc.
- Works closely with IT regarding implementation of architectural standards and long- range goals to ensure practicality.
- Defines system and application architecture and provides vision, problem anticipation and problem- solving ability to the organization. Creates a process to ensure both architectural standards and business needs are balanced and discussed.
- Performs architectural reviews in conjunction with existing business processes, business analysts and solution architects to debug, and evaluate overall strategy.
- Evaluates acquisition target technology to identify risks and concerns.
- Works on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized architecture domains.
- Ensures that solutions are compliant with target-state architecture models.
- Collaborates with project management and IT leaders to ensure progress towards architectural alignment with project goals and requirements.
- Approves the tools and components used within the enterprise.
- Consults with project teams to fit projects to enterprise architecture, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise architecture.
- Approves modification (or waiver) of the enterprise architecture and standards to accommodate project needs.
- Develops the overall training and development of the architecture principles to the IT Organization.
- Evaluates vendor technology and key considerations in contract negotiations.
- Ensures current environment and future state documentation exists and are up to date.
- Leads IT Audit and Assessment efforts in support of items such as: strategic planning, independent audit assessments from governments, etc.
- Travel may be required for meetings and/or site visits.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Leadership experience in influencing senior level management (both IT and business).
- Related management and business/industry work experience including architecture design and deployment, systems life cycle management and infrastructure planning and operations.
- Working experience and understanding of Enterprise Architecture best practices frameworks and standards, for example, TOGAF.
- Requires exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
- Deep experience with networking and cyber security in a distributed field environment, hybrid cloud/on-prem environment, middleware/interface/integration layer such as Dell Boomi or Mulesoft, Azure cloud services, Microsoft O365, and enterprise information management.
- All components of holistic enterprise architecture, business re-engineering principles and processes and basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting.
- Additional architectural considerations: AS400 legacy applications, Citrix, call center and voice, JD Edwards Financials, websites, managed truck technologies, operational reporting, field, and plant operations technology.
- Principles of personnel training, supervision, and evaluation.
- Supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning and budgeting.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science, information systems, computer engineering, system analysis or a related field, or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Ability to travel to company locations.
