Position Overview

This role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automated systems, including the ASRS (Automated Storage/Retrieval System), and the BORM (Beverage Order Release Module), within warehouse and distribution operations. This role ensures that all facility automation equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably, supporting overall productivity and accuracy in a large beer and beverage distribution environment. The Automation Technician works closely with management, union employees, and external vendors to minimize downtime and enhance system performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair automated warehouse and material-handling equipment.
  • Monitor system performance and quickly respond to faults or breakdowns.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and system testing according to guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and PLC-based issues.
  • Operate automation systems and handle fault recovery.
  • Assist with system upgrades, software updates, and hardware modifications.
  • Work closely with union teams to support productivity while maintaining positive labor relations.
  • Document maintenance, system faults, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors during installations and major repairs.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to boost uptime, safety, and efficiency.
  • Follow all safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related field preferred but not required, (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience with automated systems in warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to travel between Bronx, Brooklyn, Suffern, Long Island and Queens locations.
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and industrial networking.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work across teams.
  • Willing to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Experience With:

  • Pneumatics and air compressor systems (valves, cylinders, etc.)
  • Hydraulics/liquid compression systems (valves, cylinders, etc.)
  • Electrical systems (starters, fuses, contacts, relays)
  • Network troubleshooting (IP/node addressing, panel switches)
  • Mechanical systems (gearboxes, chains, sprockets, motors, seals, bearings)
  • Kinematics (line speed/socket size ratios)
  • Electronics (photo sensors, measurement units, VFDs)
  • Servo systems (intelligent/robotic motors, encoders)
  • Schematics and OEM manuals
  • Pumps (troubleshooting, replacing seals/motors, understanding specs)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and work on equipment for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Work in warehouse environments that may be noisy and temperature-variable.

Hourly Salary: $33.00-$37.00

It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
