The current Plant Manager is retiring, therefore we are on the search to fill this position. The ideal candidate is someone looking for longevity and security of employment.

The Position

The ideal candidate is an experienced, hands-on Chemical Plant Manager / Technician who can assist and oversee a small team at our Tomago plant facility. This role will supervise approximately 10 staff in the manufacturing, operations and distribution of various chemicals from this site.

This role requires a strong combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and environmental compliance, ensuring the efficient and safe production of chemicals while adhering to quality standards and regulatory requirements.

As the leader, it is expected that you will assist the team with day-to-day functions of the plant, working in a collaborative environment simultaneously overseeing plant operations, maintenance of Plant, Trucks, and staff.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead your team, providing guidance and support to ensure optimal personal and business performance.
  • Monitor daily manufacturing operations, including batch processing, reaction monitoring, and equipment maintenance, to ensure the consistent production of high-quality chemicals.
  • Enforce strict safety protocols, operational procedures, and environmental regulations to maintain a safe working environment and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with quality control teams to ensure that products meet the specified quality standards, conducting regular checks and audits to maintain product integrity.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to optimise production processes, reduce waste, increase efficiency, and enhance overall plant performance.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts during equipment breakdowns, process deviations, or other operational issues, ensuring minimal downtime and quick resolution.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of production activities, process changes, safety incidents, and other relevant data to support regulatory compliance and future analysis.
  • Foster open and effective communication channels and administration support between the production team, management, and other relevant departments to ensure alignment and collaboration.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Some experience in chemical manufacturing, with 1-2 years in a leadership role highly desirable.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team of technicians.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical processes and equipment operations within a manufacturing environment.
  • Current valid Forklift Licence is essential
  • Strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth understanding of safety regulations, environmental compliance, and quality assurance standards applicable to chemical manufacturing.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a track record of resolving operational issues effectively.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities.

As a Leader you are expected to lead with a hands-on-approach, therefore being in good physical condition is desired. Candidates must be physically capable of performing manual handling activities without posing a risk to themselves or others.
