Job Description
Are you a seasoned finance leader ready to make a meaningful impact? At AFCA, we’re seeking a Financial Controller to lead our financial operations and governance functions with precision, integrity, and strategic foresight.
This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing AFCA’s core accounting operations, statutory compliance, and financial governance. You’ll manage payroll, accounts payable and receivable, financial accounting, and treasury functions, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and continuous improvement across all financial processes.
You’ll also play a key role in supporting transformation initiatives, embedding best-practice financial management, and driving operational excellence. This role will have approximately 8 direct reports.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Lead end-to-end financial operations including payroll, AP/AR, and cash management
- Deliver accurate month-end and year-end financial reporting
- Provide technical accounting advice and ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards
- Manage internal controls, finance systems access, and audit processes
- Oversee fixed asset management and treasury functions
- Prepare board-level financial reports and variance analysis
- Champion continuous improvement and team capability development
In this role you will collaborate closely with:
- AFCA’s Finance Team and Senior Leadership Group
- External auditors, financial firms, and banking institutions
- Service providers and third-party suppliers
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will need:
- CA/CPA qualification with several years experience in senior financial leadership
- Deep expertise in financial accounting, internal controls, and compliance
- Proficiency in Microsoft D365 FinOps or similar ERP systems
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical acumen
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement
