Summary:

The Network Engineer role involves deploying and configuring network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points), ensures performance and security, and manages platforms like Cisco, Palo Alto, and Fortinet. Responsibilities include implementing security measures, collaborating with teams, maintaining documentation, and supporting customers. The role requires 3+ years of LAN/WAN experience (fiber, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, MPLS, DWDM), knowledge of protocols (BGP, EIGRP, MPLS), expertise in tools like SolarWinds and Wireshark, strong troubleshooting and communication skills, disaster recovery planning, and keeping up with networking advancements.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Deploy and configure network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize network efficiency and reliability.
  • Implement and maintain network security measures to protect against unauthorized access.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and integrate network solutions accordingly.
  • Maintain detailed documentation for network configurations, processes, and procedures to ensure operational consistency and future scalability.
  • Oversee the integration of network hardware and software solutions, ensuring seamless functionality across platforms like Cisco, Palo Alto, and Fortinet.
  • Generate and analyze regular reports on network performance, security, and capacity.
  • Resolve network-related issues in a timely manner, ensuring minimal impact on business operations.
  • Provide technical support for internal and external customers during regular and off-hours, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Work with third-party vendors as needed to ensure optimal network performance.
  • Disaster recovery planning, and regular updates to ensure continuous business operations.
  • Stay updated on new networking technologies, protocols, and industry best practices by engaging in professional development activities.
  • Contribute to critical initiatives focused on advancing technology within the organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education And/Or Work Experience Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Network Engineer or in a similar role, with experience in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Strong knowledge of network security, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • In-depth understanding of LAN/WAN technologies including fiber, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, MPLS, and DWDM.
  • Familiarity with various cabling technologies like Category 5/6, Single & Multi-Mode Fiber.
  • Experience with routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, etc.).
  • Familiarity with switch port configurations (e.g., dot1q, VLANs, STP, portfast, bpduguard) and network performance optimization.
  • Expertise in network management and monitoring systems such as Solarwinds, Wireshark, and Netflow.
  • Solid understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, OSI model, DNS, VPNs, and more.
  • Proven experience managing and troubleshooting Wi-Fi solutions and network firewalls.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present ideas clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders at all levels.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in an office environment and in some cases in the field
  • Some travel may be needed
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist and lift 20 pounds
