GHD is seeking an intermediate Engineer to work with our Contaminated Assessment Remediation (CAR) group as a CAR professional.

Research, design, plan, and perform engineering duties in the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental hazards using various engineering disciplines. Work may include waste treatment, site remediation, or pollution control technology.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities- Data Collection and Analysis
- Compile, evaluate, and interpret environmental data across multiple media (soil, groundwater, surface water, air) and compare to regulatory standards.
- Conduct environmental sampling and monitoring following established procedures for quality and accuracy.
- Analyze data to support site characterization, remedial design, and regulatory compliance.
- Collate and analyze data using preset tools, methods, and formats.
- Engineering Drawings
- Create engineering drawings and figures to support communication, evaluation, and implementation of engineering solutions for remediation, containment, and treatment systems.
- Engineering Solutions Design
- Contribute to the design of engineering solutions for contaminated site assessment and remediation.
- Develop feasibility testing approaches and supervise implementation to support the development and validation of engineering solutions.
- Evaluate remedial alternatives and conceptual site models to address contaminants such as VOCs, SVOCs, metals, and PFAS.
- Health, Safety, and Environment
- Follow GHD’s HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate risks to the environment and personal well-being in the workplace.
- Promote a proactive culture of continuous improvement and safety awareness in field and office settings.
- Technical Developments Recommendation
- Research and recommend technical advancements to improve remediation techniques, data analysis, and environmental monitoring processes.
- Personal Capability Building
- Develop professional capabilities through training, mentoring, and ongoing education.
- Pursue and maintain external professional accreditation where relevant (e.g., Professional Engineer).
- Maintain understanding of evolving environmental regulations, remedial technologies, and industry best practices.
Testing
• Conduct sampling and field investigations using appropriate engineering and safety methods.
• Coordinate laboratory testing and ensure quality assurance/quality control protocols are followed.
• Design test procedures and standards based on project specifications.
Research
• Conduct research and site investigations to identify, abate, or eliminate sources of pollutants or hazards affecting the environment or public health.
• Support development of conceptual site models, hydrogeologic evaluations, and remediation system designs.
- Waste Management
- Support waste characterization, handling, and disposal activities related to contaminated site projects, ensuring compliance with regulations and project-specific requirements.
- Technical Troubleshooting
- Support troubleshooting efforts for remediation and treatment systems, aiding in accurate identification, analysis, and resolution of field or equipment issues.
- Project Management
- Work within an established project management plan to achieve scope, schedule, and budget objectives.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Review and coordinate input from multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistency across deliverables.
- Client & Customer Management (External)
- Interact with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Provide responsive communication and deliver high-quality technical service.
- Support proposal development, presentations, and client engagement initiatives.
- Environmental Impact Assessment
- Perform or support environmental site assessments, remedial investigations, and compliance evaluations.
- Assess environmental risks and impacts related to site conditions and recommend practical mitigation measures.
- Insights and Reporting
- Prepare clear, concise, and technically sound reports, correspondence, and regulatory submittals.
- Contribute to the preparation of proposals, cost estimates, and related project documentation.
- Community of Practice Management
- Engage actively within GHD’s Environmental community of practice to share knowledge and strengthen technical expertise.
- Environmental Risk Management
- Identify, assess, and manage environmental risks associated with contaminated sites, infrastructure systems, and remediation operations.
- Understand design and operation of environmental containment and treatment systems, such as landfills, barrier walls, and pumping systems.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- 5–10 years of related experience in environmental consulting, including site assessment, data interpretation, and technical reporting.
- Experience preparing regulatory work plans and reports for investigation, remediation, closure, and post-closure monitoring.
- Working knowledge of remedial technologies, hydrogeologic analysis, and environmental containment or treatment systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a consulting environment with attention to quality and client service.
