The BNY Advisor Match initiative is a multi-function program that matches high net worth investors with leading investment advisory solutions, including third party independent registered advisory (RIA) firms.
As a Financial Advisor at BNY, you will have the opportunity to present sophisticated solutions to an interested prospect, establishing strong connections and credibility, primarily through virtual interactions. You will lead the engagement of new investor prospects, providing them with tailored insights into a curated selection of independent investment advisory firm options (RIAs). Your ultimate goal is to match prospective investors with the most suitable advisor referral based on their unique needs and preferences, ensuring an unparalleled experience.
We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Financial Advisor to join our BNY Advisors Team in BNY Investments. This role is located in New York City.
The role, titled Financial Advisor, seeks candidates who have past experience in building deep trusting relationships with prospective investors by uncovering their needs to facilitate an introduction to an RIA. Experience in developing financial plans, wealth plans and the provision of financial advisory services is a prerequisite. Over time, this candidate will drive the build out and operationalization of a team of Relationship Managers, while working actively day to day to service incoming prospective investors.
This dynamic and knowledgeable Financial Advisor will possess the following expertise and skills:
- Ability to build strong relationships, engage and encourage trust, and deepen the prospective investor relationships by applying a focused communication strategy, and exceeding expectations.
- Extensive knowledge of the financial planning process including, Advanced Financial Planning concepts and strategies, Estate Planning, Retirement Planning and Investment Planning.
- Ability to build a rapport with participating RIAs and understand the breadth and nuance of these firms offerings.
- Ability to thoughtfully speak about different wealth planning and investment strategies and screen client assets while engaging in goal planning discussions.
- Strong candidates will also learn to leverage our team of BNY/Pershing specialists, your knowledge of the markets, and your ability to inspire action to help the prospect progress toward achieving their goals and meeting with an RIA.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to work collaboratively across an organization to achieve results.
- Passion for community engagement to share and engage prospects in discussion about their personal situation in order to match with an RIA.
- Build out and ongoing management of Relationship Mangers team, processes and performance, as needed.

Sales and Relationship Management Expertise. Experience and proven success in an advisory role, including a relationship management and sales function. Proven ability to develop a multi-pronged approach to a successful channel sales strategy with success in executing against it to achieve short and long-term business objectives.
Speed and Drive for Results. Ensures that things are getting done at a rapid pace, evoking ownership and accountability.
Innovation. Encourages and identifies opportunity for change through collaboration. Invests in new ideas, creates environments that encourage experimentation and is confident in sharing their new ideas.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Series 7, 65 (or 66) required prior to hire
- Relevant Insurance licenses must be obtained within 6 months of hire
- Minimum 12 years of financial service experience, to include complex planning and sophisticated product offerings
- A sound understanding of the Broker/Dealer and RIA marketplace
- Experience working in or with high growth RIA organizations preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced professional designation such as Certified Financial Planner (CFP) preferred

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $102,000 and $190,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and company- sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance and market factors.
