HVAC Technician - Life Sciences Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Location: Ireland

Position Overview

Provide hands-on HVAC maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical support within pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. Apply technical knowledge and practical skills to maintain, repair, and optimize HVAC and facility mechanical systems that ensure compliance with pharmaceutical manufacturing standards and regulatory requirements in cleanroom and controlled environments.

Key Responsibilities

System Maintenance & Operations:

  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC systems in pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities including cleanrooms, sterile manufacturing areas, and laboratory spaces
  • Monitor and maintain critical environmental parameters (temperature, humidity, pressure differentials, air changes) to ensure GMP compliance
  • Execute daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules for pharmaceutical-grade HVAC equipment
  • Respond to system alarms and emergency calls to minimize production downtime

Technical Support & Installation:

  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and startup of new HVAC equipment and systems
  • Support project teams during HVAC system upgrades and modifications in pharmaceutical facilities
  • Apply fundamental mechanical principles to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems with facility systems
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, system performance, and compliance records

Quality & Compliance:

  • Ensure all HVAC maintenance activities comply with EU GMP guidelines, FDA standards, and Irish regulatory requirements
  • Support qualification and validation activities for HVAC systems (IQ/OQ/PQ protocols)
  • Participate in regulatory inspections and audit preparations
  • Follow strict documentation and change control procedures required in pharmaceutical manufacturing

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Technical diploma/certificate in HVAC, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field
  • Completion of recognized HVAC apprenticeship program preferred

Experience:

  • 3-7 years of hands-on HVAC maintenance and repair experience
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated manufacturing environments preferred
  • Experience with cleanroom environments and controlled manufacturing spaces

Technical Skills:

  • Strong HVAC system troubleshooting capabilities and hands-on repair experience
  • Proficiency with HVAC controls systems, BMS/BAS systems, and monitoring equipment
  • Knowledge of refrigeration systems, air handling units, chillers, and boilers
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and system schematics
  • Excellent problem-solving skills using structured methods

Certifications:

  • Relevant HVAC trade certifications or licenses
  • F-Gas certification for refrigerant handling (required in Ireland)
  • SafePass certification or equivalent safety training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with pharmaceutical HVAC validation processes
  • Knowledge of cleanroom classification and monitoring requirements
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Confined space and working at height certifications

Working Conditions

  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing environment with potential exposure to cleanroom protocols
  • May require shift work, on-call availability, and weekend coverage
  • Physical demands include lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces
  • Adherence to strict safety, hygiene, and gowning procedures
