Low Voltage Design & Infrastructure Specialist Location New York Business Area Engineering and CTO Ref # 10047220

Description & Requirements

Our team, the Americas Capital IT & Design team, is the strategic core responsible for the physical layer of connectivity within Bloomberg Offices throughout North America and South America. We design and deliver the physical IT, AV, and security systems that connect our people and spaces. This is a critical function that ensures network performance, scalability, and code compliance, directly supporting our internal customer base while also aligning standards with regional peer teams.

We're the team behind the technology infrastructure that enables Bloomberg’s global workplaces. From concept to construction, we design and deliver the physical infrastructure. Our work ensures every Bloomberg office is built to the highest technical standards and ready for seamless operations from day one.

The team creates and manages the complete lifecycle of our physical infrastructure projects within Bloomberg's portfolio in the Americas. We are the architects and owners of the telecom rooms, cable pathways, and data drops for the office space. Our primary project focus is North and South America, but we actively coordinate and align standards with peer teams that focus on other geographical regions.

How We Make This Happen:

  • Design Integration: We collaborate closely with Corporate Technology Engineering teams—Networks, AV, Security, and others—to turn complex system designs into buildable, efficient, and resilient solutions.
  • Standards & Governance: We set and maintain Bloomberg’s global standards for technology infrastructure design, cabling, and implementation. This specialist is a custodian of these standards, making sure every project delivers quality, consistency, and scalability.
  • Project Delivery: We manage the entire capital technology build process—Plan, Design, Buy, Build—partnering with internal teams, contractors, and vendors.
  • A high-quality, modern design workflow that relies on a structured Needs Assessment, detailed Design Document creation, and rich Vendor Proposal reviews for projects across the Americas.

Strategic Initiatives:

  • Regional Design Standardization: Establishing next-generation IDF/MDF templates and cabling standards for high-density Bloomberg offices throughout North and South America, focusing on regional code compliance (e.g., NEC, local regulations in LATAM).
  • Integrating Cellular signal availability and advanced PoE systems into standard buildout plans across the American regions.
  • Driving the standardization of our physical infrastructure using CommScope products to ensure superior quality and warranty coverage, while proactively exploring new vendor products and technologies for future adoption.

What’s in it for you?

  • Work on high-impact, high-visibility projects that directly shape the physical environment of our offices across the Americas.
  • Architect and drive strategic procurement decisions, influencing product selection and vendor performance across two continents.
  • Partnership & Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with design, real estate, operations, and procurement partners to deliver unified, high-performing workplaces.
  • Be part of a diverse team that values strong communication and individual expertise in solving complex logistical and technical challenges.

We’Ll Trust You To:

  • Own the entire Low Voltage (LV) Project Lifecycle: Drive the project from initial design planning and specifying requirements through final project delivery and operational turnover for all North and South America locations.
  • Lead LV Supply Chain and Material Governance: Manage the Bill of Materials (BOM), oversee kitted component updates, and ensure logistical readiness across all projects (whether materials are procured internally or by the contractor). This includes working with suppliers like CommScope to proactively manage EOL risk and pre-order critical components to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Drive Design Governance and Assurance: Lead the comprehensive IT infrastructure design review and redlining process, covering all aspects of the design—such as power, space, HVAC, and end-to-end cable connectivity and conveyance in and out of the IDFs—to ensure each project is technically precise, operationally ready, future-proof and fully aligned with design standards.
  • Manage Project Execution and Compliance: Coordinate all LV projects with strong project management skills, ensuring strict adherence to budget, quality, and regional logistical requirements while enforcing design integrity and safety compliance across the construction environments.
  • Champion Standards and Team Culture: Be a steward of our design standards, ensuring they are upheld on every project. Fully commit to the team experience—being a mentor, a learner, and prioritizing clear, proactive communication with all project stakeholders and peer teams.

You’Ll Need To Have:

  • Extensive (7+ years) experience in the design, installation, and engineering of complex Low Voltage systems, covering both copper (CAT6/6A) and fiber optic cabling.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills for managing complex build cycles, timelines, and budgets across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Proven ability to design, review, and procure complex structured cabling and IDF/MDF solutions for enterprise office buildouts.
  • Mandatory familiarity with structured cabling systems, building risers, and managing both indoor and outdoor cabling infrastructure.
  • Expertise in the design, layout, and capacity planning of IDF/MDFs for modern office spaces.
  • Mandatory experience in the review and redlining of construction drawings related to IT, electrical, and mechanical plans affecting telecom infrastructure.
  • In-depth network experience and knowledge of network architecture concepts (e.g., OSI model, VLANs, basic routing/switching principles) to inform and support physical layer design.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Power over Ethernet (PoE) standards and Telco (telecommunication) room requirements.
  • Deep experience calculating power requirements, managing load distribution, and specifying requirements for Power Distribution Units (PDUs).
  • Expert-level knowledge of TIA/EIA standards and NEC (National Electrical Code) as they pertain to low voltage and electrical separation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for managing internal and external relationships across multiple regions and coordinating with peer teams.
  • A Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent work experience

We’D Love To See:

  • Familiarity with corporate network environments, including LAN, SD-WAN, and Data Center networks.
  • Direct experience specifically utilizing CommScope products or having relevant manufacturer certifications.
  • Knowledge of security technology, including access control and video surveillance (CCTV) system design and physical integration.
  • Knowledge of Audio/Visual (AV) system design and integration principles.
  • Experience or strong conceptual knowledge of Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) or other in-building cellular/wireless solutions.
  • Professional certifications such as BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer).
  • Experience managing LV projects or vendors across multiple countries/regions (e.g., US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil).
