Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in Northwest Queensland and Western Australia.
Dawson is located at the southern end of the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, being just over a 2hrs drive west from either Rockhampton or Gladstone, or 4.5hrs drive north of the Darling Downs or South Burnett.
Job Description
We are currently seeking a Service Technician within the CHPP at our Dawson Mine, on a full-time permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a safety-focused individual with a mechanical/ equipment servicing background to join the maintenance team at the Coal Handling and Processing Plant.
Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, the Service Technician will be responsible for safely carrying out scheduled and ad-hoc servicing on all CHPP fixed plant equipment including lubrication, oil changes refuelling and basic lubrication system repairs.
The responsibilities of the CHPP Service Technician include:
- Optimise Coal Handling and Preparation Plant operations through quality workmanship.
- As a member of the maintenance team, maintain all aspects of Equipment Maintenance including preventative maintenance servicing.
- Collaborate and work effectively with other Maintenance and Production team members, including Contractors, to better manage equipment reliability and resolve problems impacting on all areas.
- Carry out required Work Management duties and ensure that all Documentation and Data Entry is accurately completed and to a high standard.
- Undertake thorough Inspections of all Plant and Equipment, reporting any defects or required future work.
- Prioritise efforts to reduce breakdowns and their duration, unplanned events and interrupting work which disturbs planned and scheduled work.
- Accept a high level of ownership around equipment performance.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping, attention to detail and quality of work.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement Programs that result in higher levels of Plant and Equipment performance and availability.
- Maintain a high-level working knowledge of Safety Processes and Procedures.
Qualifications
- Hold a relevant Mechanical Trade Qualification or have relevant plant and equipment servicing experience.
- It is essential for the incumbent to demonstrate experience and/or knowledge in the following also:
- Plant servicing and lubrication experience
- Experience with safety management systems
- Experience within a mining operation
- Demonstrated ability to approach work with a ‘can do attitude’
- Work well within a team to achieve combined success
- HR License holder
- RIIVEH306 Operate a Mine Service Vehicle or RIISAM2121 Service Mine Plant & Equipment (desirable)
- Working at Heights, Confined space, EWP, Forklift, Dogging and Rigging Certificates (desirable)

- Rosters available include 4/3 and 7/7 dayshift only roster
