About The Role

Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) have an exciting opportunity for a Risk Assurance Senior Manager to join the Risk Assurance function. You’ll be leading the development and execution of a comprehensive risk assurance capability aligned to HL’s objectives and corporate strategy. The Risk Assurance Senior Manager is responsible for providing independent assurance on the effectiveness of the organisation risk management framework, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, managed and mitigated within risk appetite. The role supports senior management and the Board by delivering accurate and insightful assurance reports that state the current risk position, assess the level of risk against risk appetite with issues and actions identified to reduce risk.

What you’ll be doing

• Develop and lead the risk assurance function ensuring alignment with HL objectives and strategy.
• Design and implement a risk assurance programme which assesses the application of risk management framework, control capabilities and risk mitigation strategies.
• Monitor external threats and horizon scan, identify emerging risks, adapt assurance strategies, and plans accordingly.
• Work collaboratively with the Risk Advisory and wider Risk team, Internal Audit, Compliance and Business Leaders to eliminate duplication and develop a coordinated and integrated Three Line of Defence assurance plan.  
• On a six-monthly basis develop a risk based annual assurance plan and submit to Board and Risk Committees for approval. The plan should prioritise areas of greatest risk to HL objective and strategy.
• Complete the Board approved assurance plan on time / to quality and within approved budgets.
• Assess key risks against HL risk appetite and tolerance to identify improvement areas to be tracked through issue and actions management or risk accepted.
• Ensure timely escalation of significant risk exposures and/or issues in line with HL Impact Matrix.
• Influence senior management and first line risk teams to embed a risk-aware culture, achieving risk maturity and ensuring risk management framework compliance.
• Present insightful risk assurance reports to senior management, risk committee and the Board.
• Maintain the risk assurance methodology to meet regulatory expectations and industry best practice.
• Lead, mentor and develop a high performing risk assurance team and promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Leverage new technologies to enable real-time monitoring and automation of controls.
• Drive automation to enhance scalability and effectiveness of risk assurance deliverables.
• Where available use a data driven approach to assurance planning, execution and reporting.

About You

• Proven experience in risk management, risk assurance, internal audit or related field.
• In-depth understanding of risk management framework, risk appetite, control environment and corporate governance.
• Proven experience in delivering risk assurance plans on time and to budget and ensuring actions to mitigate risks are successfully completed.  
• Strong Leadership skills with experience of managing and developing teams.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders through excellent communication, stakeholder management, and high-quality report writing.
• Experienced in delivering clear, insightful reports and presentations at Board and Executive levels.

Interview Process

The interview process for this role will be a two-stage interview consisting of technical competency-based questions and an assessment.

Working Schedule

The Risk Assurance Senior Manager role is a Permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Our office is based in Bristol, BS1 5HL. Hybrid working is available where there’s flexibility to work from home and the office.
