At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.
Eli Lilly is a global healthcare leader that unites caring with discovery to create medicines that make life better for people around the world. We’re leveraging cutting-edge technologies and innovative platforms to develop next-generation therapeutic ecosystems, connected devices, data, and analytics to transform patient experiences and improve treatment outcomes.
As a member of Design at Lilly, you'll be at the forefront of Eli Lilly’s commitment to crafting intuitive, accessible, and impactful digital experiences. We work across all functions of the organization, applying research and design thinking to solve complex challenges and create high-quality digital solutions that improve the lives of patients who use our medications. Our team combines user insight with design expertise to ensure the human element is at the core of our digital solutions.
About The Role
We’re seeking a Senior UX Researcher to play a critical role in shaping the evolution of the LillyDirect platform. You’ll bring research rigor, strategic insight, and operational excellence to scale LillyDirect’s service while elevating the patient and provider experience. This role requires someone who thrives in complex systems, balancing user needs and business goals to drive clarity in a regulated environment.
You’ll lead and execute research that uncovers actionable insights, shapes product direction, and ensures decisions are grounded in evidence. Most importantly, you’ll collaborate closely with product owners, designers, engineers, and other researchers to redefine digital healthcare for millions worldwide.
What You’Ll Do
- Lead and execute end-to-end research across the LillyDirect ecosystem, from exploratory discovery to evaluative validation, using mixed methods to inform strategy, design, and product decisions.
- Frame clear, strategic research questions that uncover root causes, not just surface-level pain points.
- Translate data and behavioral insight into crisp, actionable recommendations that drive measurable improvements in patient and provider experience.
- Partner with design, product, and engineering to ground decisions in evidence, balancing user insight with product and technical constraints.
- Influence product strategy by advocating for the voice of the user with clarity and credibility in rooms filled with executives, regulators, and domain experts.
- Contribute to and uphold research operations standards that scale research quality and visibility across the organization.
- Mentor junior researchers and cross-functional peers, modeling rigorous research craft and critical thinking.
How You’Ll Succeed
- You uphold ethical research practices and user privacy with zero compromise, especially in regulated health contexts.
- You apply the right level of rigor for the decision at hand and know when to go deep and when to move fast.
- You connect insights across studies to inform long-term platform and experience strategy.
- You’re fluent in both qualitative and quantitative reasoning, comfortable designing and executing a moderated study one week and interpreting analytics the next.
- You thrive in ambiguity, bringing structure, focus, and evidence to open-ended or politically sensitive questions.
- You communicate with precision, distilling complex findings into clear, persuasive narratives that influence product and design decisions.
- You build strong partnerships across disciplines by demonstrating credibility, transparency, and accountability.
What You Should Bring
- Demonstrated success translating research into strategic decisions and measurable outcomes.
- Strong command of a broad research toolkit, including in-depth interviews, concept and usability testing, survey design, diary studies, card sorting, and behavioral analytics.
- Fluency in mixed-methods reasoning: knowing when to validate patterns quantitatively and when to deepen understanding qualitatively.
- Exceptional communication skills: crisp writing, compelling presentation, and the ability to tailor insights to executives, engineers, or designers.
- Experience collaborating within agile product teams and operating within evolving design systems.
- A collaborative, pragmatic mindset that balances ideal rigor with the realities of timeline, risk, and business context.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5–10 years of hands-on experience conducting UX research across digital products and services, ideally in complex or regulated industries.
- Hands-on experience with common research and analysis tools (dscout, UserTesting, Optimal Workshop, Maze, Qualtrics, Miro, Figma, or equivalent).
- Portfolio or case studies demonstrating end-to-end research work, including planning, recruiting, execution, analysis, and impact, is required for consideration.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN) for this position.
