Civil & Steel Structure Engineer

Primary Functions

Surveillance of contractors and sub-contractors, implementation of their quality management

systems. Verify compliance with contract documentation and ISO 9000 requirements.

On site inspection of civil, steel structure, buildings, roads, culverts, foundations, construction and

testing works to verify their compliance to construction drawings, project specifications and contract

documents with regard to quality.

9.8.2. Duties and Responsibilities

9.8.2.1 General

Participate in quality audits and assessments of civil works as directed

Review and approval of contractors and sub-contractors Inspection and Test Plans for

conformance to specifications, codes and standards and identification of inspection

Intervention Requirements.

Verify quality control documentation in the form of Inspection and Test Plans, Method

Statements and Work Instructions and Inspection Records / Test Certificates are

available prior to work commencing.

Ensure work sequence is planned and controlled via implementation and adherence to

Client approved Method Statements and Work Instructions.

Undertake "actual", "witness" and "surveillance" inspection activities of civil construction

and testing works at site as required by Inspection and Test Plans to verify product

conformity and full compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, codes &

standards and project contract documents.

Sampling and testing of civil works to verify adequacy of construction and inspection

methodologies in producing product conforming to engineering drawings, specifications,

codes and standards and project contract documents.

Review and acceptance, via signature, of process and inspection verification documents

in the form of Inspection and Test Plans, Inspection Records, Checklists and Test

Certificates.

Monitor work status to determine potential interface or schedule problems which will aid

application of preventive measures to negate potential negative affect.

Ensure company regulations with regard to work safety and environment preservation

Are Maintained.

Perform similar other related duties as and when assigned by direct supervisor.

Initiate Nonconformance Reports where quality deficiencies identified are not

Satisfactorily Actioned.

• Produce and submit Daily Inspection Reports identifying items inspected, acceptance /
• rejection rates and Areas of Concern.

Specific

• Temperature, slump inspection checks of received concrete
• Witnessing of compaction testing at site
• Verifying traceability of field sampling activities
• Witnessing testing of laboratory samples
• Torque tightness checks

Review and acceptance of Contractor project documents

Responsibilities

• Reports to Head of Construction
• Head of Construction Internal To receive daily work instructions
• Daily Co-ordinates with Discipline Engineer
• Discipline Engineer Internal Coordinate with Discipline Engineers for day to day work.
• Daily Interfaces with EPC Contractor Civil representative
• EPC Contractor Civil representative
• External Daily monitoring of contractor performance 
• Daily Interfaces with Sub- Contractor Civil representative

• External Daily monitoring of subcontractor performance

Education

Bachelors Engineering in Civil discipline or equivalent

Experience

10 years relevant experience large size civil works with large international onshore
petrochemical, oil and gas projects

Skills And Competencies

• Fire proofing, steel structures
• Familiarity with construction and testing methods and techniques
• Good level of technical understanding in the civil engineering discipline
• Good knowledge of international codes and standards
• Good knowledge of quality control techniques
• Fluent in English (spoken and written)
• Knowledge of generic computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook,
• Adobe Acrobat and specific software packages for the discipline
