Overview
We are seeking a capable and ambitious Project Manager to join our Military Air team at Preston. This role is ideal for someone with a minimum of 2 years’ project management experience who is eager to develop their career within a high-profile defence environment. You will be involved in the delivery of military projects, contributing to national security and technological advancement. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong project management skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage projects (low to medium complexity) from initiation through to delivery, ensuring scope, schedule, cost, and quality objectives are met.
- Support bid and business development activities, including requirements capture, scope definition, cost estimation, and scheduling.
- Develop and maintain integrated project plans, budgets, and schedules.
- Monitor project performance and apply robust control and change management processes.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, escalating issues as necessary.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, external stakeholders, and customers.
- Ensure compliance with relevant quality standards, customer processes, and legal regulations.
- Drive continuous improvement and contribute to the development of project management best practices.
- Coordinate project resource changes and support team development.
- Report on project progress, KPIs, and support customer satisfaction initiatives.
Qualifications
- HND/degree level within an Engineering, Project Management or Business/Operational Management field or/and be able to demonstrate experience and proven capability.
Essential Skills
- Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies (e.g. MS Project, PRINCE2, Agile).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong financial and analytical skills.
- Proactive approach with a desire to grow and take on increasing responsibility.
Desired Skills
- Experience working on engineering or mission systems within military or defence-related programmes.
- Project Management certification (e.g. PMP, APM) is highly desirable.
Experience
- Experience in project management, ideally within aerospace, defence, or engineering sectors.
