JOB SUMMARY:Within the context of a client and family centred care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and the vision and values of Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre, this position utilizes advanced clinical knowledge and procedures to provide occupational therapy services on assistive technology and seating for clients. Duties include conducting advanced assessments utilizing an evidence-based approach, planning goal directed services, implementing services utilizing advanced intervention approaches/procedures, evaluating the effectiveness of the service, preparing and maintaining records, developing research proposals, participating in interdisciplinary research, demonstrating safe and effective resource utilization and quality management and contributing to the development, review and promotion of occupational therapy services.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Graduation from an approved school of Occupational Therapy, plus additional course work in assistive technology, seating and positioning, and skin and wound management and three year’s recent experience in a rehabilitation health care setting including seating and positioning experience involving advanced interventions, commercial and custom devices and powered and manual mobility equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesBroad knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to seating, positioning and assistive technology.Broad knowledge of concepts, current trends and practice related to seating, positioning and assistive technology.Broad knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.Demonstrated ability to function as a team member.Demonstrated ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and clients both one-on-one and in groups.Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation and teaching.Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment.Demonstrated ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for intervention.Computer literacy with work processing, spreadsheet and database skills.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
