The Department of Facilities is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of CPS schools, modular buildings, annexes, and administrative offices. The department ensures that the district’s schools and facilities are clean, safe, heated and cooled, and dry.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Staffing Manager, the Employee Discipline Coordinator ensures discipline is documented, tracked, submitted, and processed internally or sent to the appropriate vendor’s HR group. The Employee Discipline Coordinator will work closely with the Staffing Analyst to ensure data is being captured in a way that is conducive to analytics. In collaboration with the Facilities and Custodial Field Lead, this position retains and tracks documented formal performance improvement plans for custodians with low mid-year performance evaluations.
The Employee Discipline Coordinator will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
- Serve as a liaison between the custodial manager and CPS’ Labor and Relations Department by providing all necessary discipline documents accurately.
- Provide support in identifying custodial performance issues, assist in gathering investigatory evidence, maintain detailed records, and keep school leaders and operational leaders informed on processes and procedures.
- Ensure custodians with low mid-year performance evaluations receive a performance improvement plan that is documented, retained, and tracked.
- Collect cautionary notices and formal discipline requests and ensure they are retained and tracked in a method conducive to analytics.
- Make sure custodians with the lowest end-of-year performance evaluations, are issued discipline or processing termination in accordance.
- In accordance with collective bargaining agreements, make sure custodians, who were on a performance improvement plan, continue to get unsatisfactory performance evaluations are disciplined or terminated, as appropriate.
- Communicate via phone, email, and in person with stakeholders in a professional manner.
- Meet with Vendor partners regularly to discuss the discipline process and next steps.
- Identify growth opportunities and focused training sessions for custodial staff experiencing performance issues.
- Tracks and manages AWOL process; ensures clear communication with appropriate Stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Employee Discipline Coordinator must possess the following qualifications:
Education Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is highly preferred.
Experience Required:
- A minimum of three (3) years of human resources experience including the following is required:
- Experience in employee relations and/or disciplinary processes, preferably in a high-demand environment.
- Experience coordinating multiple projects and processes while meeting regular deliverables and engaging in continuous improvement.
- Experience with using technology such as computers, multi-line phones.
- Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Google suite.
Bilingual (Spanish) Preferred.
- Experience in employee relations and/or disciplinary processes, preferably in a high-demand environment.
- Experience coordinating multiple projects and processes while meeting regular deliverables and engaging in continuous improvement.
- Experience with using technology such as computers, multi-line phones.
- Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Google suite.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Ability to work well under pressure, while handling multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Good oral, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with the use of technology/computers and software including, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, etc.
- Able to work independently, as well as, in a team with others and across departments and schools.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to define problems, analyze data, and outline valid conclusions and action steps.

Conditions Of Employment
- Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
