The Xbox Advanced Technology Group (ATG) is a specialized engineering team within Microsoft’s Gaming division and our goal is to help empower game developers to realize their dreams on Microsoft gaming platforms. Our team strives to understand the technological challenges, motivations, and goals of game developers, and works across our platform and the industry to create solutions, enhance and advance game technology, and improve the developer experience.

The ATG Graphics team is looking for a collaborative Senior Graphics Software Engineer who is passionate about graphics, gaming technology, performance and enhancing the experience for game developers. As a member of this team, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with both game developers and Microsoft platform teams to help guarantee that games are visually impressive while also performing well. The candidate should have deep understanding of code performance and have technical expertise in real-time rendering techniques and graphics performance optimizations. This engineer values teamwork with diverse developers from all corners of the gaming world and is dedicated to ongoing learning, innovation, and advancing the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with game developers and Microsoft platform teams across various disciplines to solve technical problems
  • Conduct graphics performance analysis and provide optimization guidance
  • Explore the latest graphics innovations and share recommendations with game developers
  • Collaborate across teams to drive change on behalf of developer needs
  • Research and incubate innovative ideas to advance the Microsoft gaming environment

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience with C OR C++ 
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Technical expertise in real-time rendering
  • Proficient in graphics APIs and shader languages, such as Direct3D and HLSL

Preferred Qualifications

  • Worked on one or more game titles
  • Proficient with performance analysis tools such as PIX, RenderDoc, NVIDIA Nsight, AMD Radeon or Intel GPA
  • Technical skills in any one of various graphics specialist fields such as GPU architecture, ray tracing, general compute, physical based rendering, etc.
  • Familiarity with modern game engines such as Unity, Unreal, or equivalent · Comfortable investigating and debugging code
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
