As a Software Engineer II with Microsoft Path team, you won’t just be building software—you’ll be transforming how people work, plan, and collaborate every single day. You’ll be modernizing work management with artificial intelligence (AI), pioneering next-generation Large Language Models (LLMs) and advanced Agentic frameworks that supercharge productivity. From leveraging advanced AI agents to automate repetitive tasks, to creating intelligent assistants that streamline project workflows and proactively complete tasks, you’ll be at the heart of an exciting global effort—redefining how people everywhere get things done.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute in partnership with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature and consider a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes.
  • Learn and contribute to processes for the architecture of a product/solution feature and learns to create proposals by testing design hypotheses and helping to refine code plans under the technical leadership of others as well as help produce code to test hypotheses for technical solutions and assists with technical validation efforts.
  • Create and implement code that is extensible and maintainable and apply diagnosability, reliability and maintainability, and understand when the code is ready to be shared and delivered for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable.
  • Review work items to gain knowledge of product features in partnership with appropriate stakeholders and assist and learn about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation as well as escalate any issues that would cause a delay.
  • Learn about and contribute to operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis and identify solutions and mitigations to simple issues impacting performance or functionality of Live Site services and escalate as necessary.
  • Help develop and contribute to automation within production and deployment of a product feature and run code in simulated or other non-production environments to confirm functionality and error-free runtime for products with oversight.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of full stack experience (frontend and backend).
  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience building Python backend service and distributed data processing systems. 
  • Experience building generative AI applications using LLMs, evals.
  • Experience building front end applications using node.js, React, TypeScript etc., 
  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
