Description
We are looking to bring an experienced Service Coordinator to join our team at Murphy Blair Gardens. Murphy Blair is a garden style apartment community with 117 units, located in downtown St. Louis. This service is provided to our residents due to a HUD grant.
- JOB BRIEF: The Services Coordinator assumes responsibility within their assigned
- facility for educational/wellness programs, fundraising activities and
- resolving resident problems/issues to promote independent living. This
- function includes identifying service needs and availability, and
- development of contacts with service providers and agencies for resident
- referrals. Educates residents on available services and monitors
- provisions of services. Works in conjunction with the property manager
- and other management staff of Kohner Properties as deemed necessary.
Functions Of The Job
Conduct all business in accordance with Company policies and procedures, Fair Housing,
Americans with Disabilities Act, HUD regulations and local ordinances pertaining to
Apartments.
Must have complete knowledge of Fair Housing Compliance laws and all other laws
pertaining to apartments. Required to attend periodic Fair Housing seminars.
Assists and advises residents and families of the services which are available and which may
be necessary to maintain a self-reliant lifestyle.
Educates residents on service availability, application procedures, resident’s rights, etc. both
individually and as a group.
Assembles a directory of community services and makes it available to residents and their
families. Educates them as needed about different services.
Meets with and screens service providers as needed and when appropriate.
Acts as a liaison between community agencies, service providers, and residents.
Oversees fundraising efforts for the benefit of residents in need of food, medical equipment,
Services, Etc.
Sets up volunteer opportunities with service organizations in the community.
Encourages residents to be proactive in meeting their social, psychological, and physical
needs. Facilitates meeting of needs when necessary, but avoids creation of unhealthy
Dependence.
Develops and implements educational and/or wellness programs for the residential
Community.
- Reports all suspected abuse situations to the appropriate agency.
- Maintains established service plans (also known as case plans or care plans) and evaluates
- their effectiveness, adequacy and need for changes.
- Provides intervention when necessary to alleviate a problem situation. Builds and maintains
- case files on all residents which contain at least the following: resident profile, home visit
- questionnaire, resident history notes, release of information form, consent to remove form,
- and emergency contact information.
- Resident files are to be kept in a secure place to ensure confidentiality.
Document contact with residents, providers, and families.
Complete reports as required by management in an accurate and timely manner.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Scheduling:
• The position is typically scheduled during the business week, however, the need may
arise for weekend and evening hours.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- Must have basic computer knowledge.
- Must be able to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect pertinent
data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and initiate appropriate course of action.
• Must effectively convey ideas, images and goals to a diverse group of personalities verbally
And In Writing.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of community services in the given area.
- Aware of eligibility for and procedures of federal and state entitlement programs.
- Strong advocacy capabilities.
Education And/Or Experience
• Baccalaureate Degree required. Concentration in Human Services ie: Gerontology,
Social Work, Psychology, or Public Health.
- Proven experience in a service coordinator role.
- Thirty-six hours of training may be required before hire or within one year of hire. Thereafter,
twelve hours of continuing education is required annually.
• Membership in the American Association of Service Coordinators preferred.
Language Skills
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively and persuasively.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Professional Service Coordinator Certification preferred
- Valid Driver’s License required
Driving/Traveling Requirements
• Occasional need (1% to 33% of the time) to utilize personal transportation to contact local
social service agencies, etc.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.

• Standing, Unilateral and Bilateral Movement, Walking, Reaching, Grasping/Turning,
Bending/Stooping/Squatting, Climbing Stairs, Pushing or Pulling, Writing/Typing, Finger
Dexterity, Lifting/Carrying, Talking, Hearing.

Apartment Homes, Etc.).

Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions:
• Indoors (66% to 100% of the time); frequently outdoors, all conditions (33% to 66% of the
Time).
• Occasional exposure to caustics, solvents, oils, fumes, flammables, pesticides, etc. (less than
10%).
