Berger Transfer & Storage, Inc is seeking a Accountant to join our team in St. Paul, MN! The accountant provides accounting and analytical services within the finance and accounting areas as well as across functional boundaries.
Responsibilities for our Accountants include but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with internal departments to gather, analyze, and interpret relevant financial information;
- Back up for Multi state payroll filings
- Analyze and reconcile assigned accounts by preparing reconciliation reports, adjusting entries, identifying root causes for reconciling items, and propose actions for process improvement;
- Prepare and enter adjusting and recurring journal entries based upon appropriate supporting documentation;
- Perform analysis and research of operating results in assigned organizational units in collaboration with responsible operating unit managers as part of monthly closes;
- Assist with generation and distribution of financial reports on a monthly basis;
- Assist with preparation and analysis of annual budgets;
- Assist with quarterly and annual tax filings;
- Assist with training and development of finance team members;
- Provide assistance/backfill duties for other accounting team members as needed;
- Other duties as assigned by management.
The successful candidate for this position will share the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Finance/Accounting;
- A minimum of five years of experience in general ledger accounting, or similar experience, including account analysis and reconciliation tasks (required);
- Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ability to apply them;
- Strong payroll knowledge and skills
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills;
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision to meet deadlines;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability and willingness to suggest new work approaches, drive process improvements, and consider alternate approaches to tasks;
- Willingness to take ownership of new task assignments and projects;
- Familiarity with computer skills which include spreadsheets, databases, and other software applications;
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite;
- Positive, “can do” attitude;
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
