Consumer Loan Underwriter

Primary Purpose:

Under direct supervision, the Consumer Loan Underwriter I reviews information and data, and decides to reject or accept consumer loan applications based on information provided in a loan application. 

Principal Duties And Responsibilities:

• Assists Consumer Loan Underwriters with file documentation 
• Works with Loan Officers to gather applicable documentation required to decision applications 
• Gathers and reviews information pertaining to the applicant’s income, assets, debts, and credit history to determine creditworthiness and assess ability to repay the loan 
• Evaluates collateral as compared to the loan amount 
• Evaluates the borrower’s existing banking relationship 
• Ensures that property specifications and loan terms meet financial institution requirements and government regulations 
• Provides and maintains a professional, business-like atmosphere within the organization 

Job Specifications: Performs work under direct supervision 

• Handles basics issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff 
• Possesses beginning to working knowledge of subject matter 
• Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 0 – 4 years of experience. 
• Must possess mathematical, analytical thinking and problem/situation analysis skills 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
• Thorough knowledge of compliance regulations 
• Thorough understanding of all loan products 
• Must be detailed oriented and able to follow set guidelines 
• Must be able to meet strict time deadlines and work independently under pressure 
• Must be able to multi task.
