Applied Control is seeking an Engineering Manager to support our continued growth within our Pressure Management Business Unit. The Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role in facilitating the successful execution of projects within Applied Control, with a customer focus. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are executed and completed on time, within budget, and in a way that meets quality standards. This role is critical to supporting the team to deliver high standards of performance, quality and safety, along with providing motivation. You will be responsible for ensuring our customers receive an exceptional experience and that internal operations run smoothly and efficiently. You will oversee the day-to-day activities, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in processes and resource allocation.

Engineering Manager Success Factors:

  1. People – Manages staff effectively through regular and productive cadence meetings. Provides timely feedback including performance assessments and coaching.
  2. Workflow – Manages workflow of direct reports to ensure customer deadlines are met, the “quote to win” approach is executed, a strong focus on gross profitability percent, and order entry efficiency.
  3. Customer Intimacy – Monitors and verifies that direct reports are consistently engaging in customer interactions over the phone with quote follow-up calls and outreach calls to out-of-touch customers.

Engineering Manager Responsibilities:

  • Deliver technical solutions to customers for their process control needs
  • Execute Applied Control’s overall business strategy and initiatives through interactions at various levels with customers and vendors
  • Provide internal sales and technical support to account managers and outside sales specialists
  • Understand and effectively communicate customer needs and business issues to colleagues, positioning Applied Control as our customers’ trusted advisor
  • Develop an unmatched level of expertise in the application of all our final control element products and solutions offered, and deliver quality solutions and services to our many customers and industries
  • Supports profitable growth of final control business to meet our financial goals through proper management and guidance of an inside sales team.
  • Manages a team who solves problems, manages projects, quotes work, interacts with internal and external customers, manages order to delivery of product processes and margin gained on sales.
  • Develops new programs to support customer needs and drive business growth
  • Contributes to relationship management with key suppliers and Emerson. Responsible for delivering reports to support the business and meet Emerson requirements
  • Ensures Growth Review Initiatives are being supported by the group
  • Assesses staffing level requirements, supports recruiting and interview process, and coordinates training plans.
  • Develops people through regular cadence process and development plans. Provides active feedback and coaching. Manages solution selling activities.
  • Collaborates with operations, services, and outside sales teams to create alignment and productivity.

Engineering Manager Skills/Qualifications:

  • Capable of understanding technical concepts and products.
  • Degree in Engineering - Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical preferred
  • Strong technical background
  • Highly effective at building long term relationships
  • Use of MS Office products and other industry related software tools such as sizing, application, and quotation tools
  • Able to strategically position conversations with customers to sell products and services using Solution Selling Strategies.
  • Requires the ability to read and understand process and instrumentation drawings (P&ID’s) and conform customer instrumentation and final control specification sheets into properly applied products
  • Able to identify and act in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and realistic understanding of issues: use reason and logic
  • Able to maintain a mature problem-solving attitude while dealing with conflict
  • Able to clearly present information through verbal communication; influence or persuade others through oral presentation in positive or negative circumstances; demonstrates good listening skills.
  • Able to organize or schedule people, tasks, or services; to develop realistic action plans while being sensitive to time constraints and resource availability.
  • Continuously serves as a cultural role model with the highest of integrity and ethics when interacting with others internally and external to the organization.

This role is based out of our Corporate Headquarters in Colorado.

Engineering Manager Working Conditions:

Includes working primarily in an office setting, with occasional assignments outside the office.  This position may require some travel.

Engineering Manager CompensationBase Wage Range:   $95,000 to $115,000 annually Prior work or industry experience as well as job-related education and unique skills will be taken into consideration when setting the wage rate. 

 Other Variable Compensation:  Eligible for participation in the annual profit share and bonus program, based on company and individual performance.
