Change.org is searching for a Head of Conservative External Affairs to amplify our relationships with key conservative thought leaders, advocacy groups, political decision makers, industry associations, and nonprofit organizations.

Key Outcomes:

  • Develop and execute an external communications strategy that builds trust and engagement with key conservative influencers. 
  • Develop strategic partnerships with conservative advocacy groups, policy organizations, NGOs, leaders, influencers and political decision makers who can shape public perception and broaden Change.org’s reach and impact.
  • Prepare for brand opportunities and reputational risks in the conservative space.
  • Advise our senior leadership team on strategic opportunities in the broader conservative landscape.

The most important core competencies for the role are: 

  • An extensive and active network with top-tier conservative thought leaders, influencers, political decision makers and organizations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, demonstrating clarity, persuasion, and effectiveness across a diversity of channels.
  • Strong political and cultural fluency, with a nuanced understanding of a diversity of conservative perspectives and communities.
  • Ability to conceptualize, develop and run external affairs events (VIP dinners, conferences, etc).
  • A demonstrated ability to engage constructively across difference.
  • Strong strategic storytelling, and the ability to build influence and credibility with conservative communities.
  • Experience with outreach and storytelling on social media is a plus.

Target Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in external affairs, public relations or a leadership role in the conservative community.
  • Proven success managing or building conservative networks.
  • Experience working on conservative influence campaigns. 
  • Experience running external affairs events (VIP dinners, conferences, etc).
  • Experience with outreach and storytelling on social media is a plus.
  • Experience leading a team is a plus.

This is a full time remote role based in the United States.

We know great talent comes in many forms. We’re open to hiring this role at either the individual contributor or manager level. The title, scope, and compensation will be aligned with the experience and skills of the selected candidate. As a general guide:

Compensation for the individual contributor role is below.

  • The annual salary of an External Affairs Strategist is $150,000 in San Francisco/NYC, $142,500 in Austin, Boston, Chicago, DC, LA, Seattle, and is $127,500 in all other US locations. 
  • Candidates with 10 years of experience and notably unique skills may qualify for the Senior External Affairs Strategist for which compensation is  $186,000 in San Francisco/NYC, $176,500 in Austin, Boston, Chicago, DC, LA, Seattle, and is $158,000 in all other US locations.

For those candidates with significant strategic leadership and management experience, we may have a management role available. 

  • The annual salary of an External Affairs Senior Manager is $160,000 in San Francisco/NYC, $152,000 in Austin, Boston, Chicago, DC, LA, Seattle, and is $136,000 in all other US locations
  • Candidates with 5+ years of relevant management experience and notably unique strategic leadership skills may qualify for the External Affairs Director role for which compensation is $230,000 in San Francisco/NYC, $218,500 in Austin, Boston, Chicago, DC, LA, Seattle, and is $195,500 in all other US locations.  
  • Candidates with 5+ years of senior management experience and notably unique strategic leadership skills may qualify for the Senior External Affairs Director role for which compensation is $276,000 in San Francisco/NYC, $262,000 in Austin, Boston, Chicago, DC, LA, Seattle, and is $234,500 in all other US locations. 

We will provide more details and information on leveling, titles and compensation in the initial screen.
