Meritus Health is seeking dedicated and vigilant Special Police Officers (SPOs) to help safeguard our patients, staff, and visitors while upholding the highest standards of safety and professionalism.

What You’Ll Do

As a Meritus SPO, you’ll be at the forefront of our security operations:

• Conduct patrols across our facility and off-site locations to ensure safety and protect assets.
• Respond to incidents, conduct preliminary investigations, and prepare detailed reports.
• Support Meritus personnel, patients, and guests with professionalism and care.
• Enforce Maryland State and local laws, as well as Meritus Health policies and procedures.
• Stay alert to potential security breaches and act swiftly to resolve them.

What You Bring

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional knowledge in a specialized field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years in law enforcement (Military Police, State, City, or Federal) within the last 5 years.
• Licensure/Certifications:
• *All applicants must have current MD Law Enforcement certification (must be current law enforcement or retired law enforcement no longer than 5 years)
• Valid driver’s license
• BLS (CPR) certification
• Ability to obtain SPO Certification, handgun permit, and Taser Certification within 6 months of hire
• IAHSS Basic Certification preferred
• Compliance with LEOSA and annual firearms proficiency
• *All applicants must have current MD Law Enforcement certification (must be current law enforcement or retired law enforcement no longer than 5 years)
• Valid driver’s license
• BLS (CPR) certification
• Ability to obtain SPO Certification, handgun permit, and Taser Certification within 6 months of hire
