Overview

This Project Accountant will handle all the accounting functions for various Fund- and Project-level entities and will assist with accurate and timely quarterly financial statements and monthly financial reports as required by third-party compliance. The hire should be able to perform full cycle accounting functions within their assigned entities. These functions include maintenance of accounts receivable, management of cash payments, lease accounting, debt service, fixed asset accounting, calculation of preferred returns for investors, financial account reconciliations and various other cash and reporting activities. The Project Accountant will work closely with Asset Management and the Accounting Manager to effectively manage the accounting and report on various funds and their projects to investors and management.  This role involves applying a broad range of accounting including general ledger, treasury operations, account reconciliations, creation of excel schedules, and performance of complex consolidated financial statements. 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare supporting documents and record complex journal entries in areas such as, but not limited to cash, prepaids, accrued expenses, deferred revenue, fixed assets, leases, debt, interest rate swaps, various operating expenses and revenues, investment and equity 
  • Record and reconcile inter-company activity, including inter-company payables, receivables, investments, and lease payments 
  • Prepare reconciliations for Balance Sheet related accounts 
  • Manage and record flow of fund requests for funds 
  • Run ad hoc analysis and detail as required 
  • Understand and record eliminating journal entries for intercompany activities and prepare consolidated financial statements for investors, lenders and management 
  • Preparation and review of various reports including but not limited debt covenant ratios 
  • Prepare annual audited financial statements and footnotes, and work with independent auditors to provide support for the annual audit process 
  • Assist with onboarding new funds, including performing cost segregations for fixed assets
  • Handles various other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager 

Education & Experience Required

  • Embrace and live by the mission and values of Cypress Creek Renewables
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting OR Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business or closely related field 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience working in accounting, finance, treasury or a closely related field required 
  • Intermediate to advanced excel skills including but not limited to the ability to use Sumifs, vlookups, pivot tables, and other basic excel functions 
  • Understanding of solar tax-equity structures or experience performing full cycle fund accounting (solar or otherwise) is a huge plus. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) required 

Experience Preferred

  • Excellent Excel and modeling skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, planning, analysis and organizing skills 
  • Strong relationship management, and problem-solving skills 
  • Must be able to multi-task and strong organizational skills are a must for this role 
  • Must be able to use discretion and independent judgement

  • Solar industry fund accounting is teachable, but requires an eagerness to learn and advance your knowledge and skill, and upon hire, requires proficiency in accounting including debits, credits, creation of complex schedules and journal entries, creation of consolidated financial statements and footnotes, and other items discussed herein. 

Location: This is a hybrid position with preference for Durham, NC.
