Join us! The GoFundMe team is looking for our next Senior Software Engineer (Payments) to help build foundational payout and ledgering capabilities that will power disbursements for millions of users every year. This is an opportunity to shape the financial backbone of one of the largest social fundraising platforms, tackling complex challenges in payment orchestration, reconciliation, and compliance.
This is a hybrid role. Candidates considered for this role will be located in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Job
- Build the backbone of GoFundMe’s financial infrastructure. Design and develop scalable backend services for payouts, ledgering, and disbursements that support millions of users worldwide.
- Own end-to-end delivery. From design, development, and testing to deployment, observability, and maintenance of backend services.
- Shape our platform’s evolution. Collaborate with Product, Data, and Risk teams to build capabilities for multi-PSP integrations, reconciliation, and compliance reporting.
- Drive engineering excellence. Participate in code reviews, define best practices, and champion maintainable, testable, and performant systems.
- Mentor and lead. Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, help improve team velocity, and contribute to building a culture of ownership and growth.
- Improve our systems. Identify and reduce technical debt, optimize performance, and enhance system reliability and observability.
You
- 5+ years of experience building and maintaining backend systems in Java, Kotlin, or PHP (or similar JVM languages).
- Solid understanding of relational database design (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and data consistency patterns.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka for distributed messaging and streaming.
- Proven experience designing and maintaining REST APIs.
- Strong grasp of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience working in Agile, iterative software development environments.
- Strength in performance optimization, observability, and debugging at scale.
- Experience with application performance monitoring (e.g., New Relic, Grafana) and log analytics tools.
- A mindset of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Experience with AWS.
Preferred
- Experience in fintech, payments, or ledgering systems (e.g., payouts, reconciliation, accounting ledgers).
- Familiarity with PSP integrations (Stripe, Adyen, etc.).

The total annual salary for this full-time position is $X - $X + equity + benefits. As this is a remote position, the salary range was determined by role, level, and possible location across the US. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
