We Are Skytree
Skytree enables a transition to a world with cleaner Air for everyone. We do this by developing and deploying smart technology that captures atmospheric carbon dioxide, enabling its use or storage to combat climate change and aid society and businesses around the world.
Born out of the European Space Agency (ESA), we are a global team of highly talented scientists, engineers and business professionals, supported by an experienced management team. Our working culture is based on a dynamic and smart approach to business with an open and understanding attitude to others and a desire to expand the boundaries of what is possible.
As we enter a new phase of growth, we are looking for a Test & Data Engineer to go on this journey with us!
Your Role
Let’s start with giving you some context. Our Technology teams are working hard to deliver Stratus, our first commercial product. This iterative process, moving from prototype to market-ready hardware, is driven by rigorous testing and data-driven insights.
Within our Technology department, the Testing team is at the heart of this process. The team runs a wide variety of tests to validate our prototypes against demanding requirements, from reliability and durability cycles to detailed thermal performance tests under various environmental conditions.
All these tests generate gigabytes of valuable data. And that’s where you come in. We are looking for an engineer who is passionate about both hands-on testing and the data it produces. This is a unique, hybrid role: you will spend approximately 40% of your time working alongside our test engineers in the lab, understanding the hardware, setting up tests, and getting a feel for our systems. This hands-on context is crucial for the other 60% of your role: diving deep into the data.
Your main responsibility will be to transform this raw test data into actionable insights. You'll build the processes to acquire and structure data effectively, then apply your analytical skills to uncover trends, identify performance issues, and find opportunities for improvement. Essentially, you are the critical link who closes the loop between physical testing and design engineering, ensuring our next iteration is always better than the last. As the first person in this specific role, you’ll have the unique opportunity to build our data analysis discipline from the ground up.
You’ll make an impact by
- Bridging the gap between the physical and digital: You'll participate in hands-on product testing to gain crucial system knowledge, then use that context to guide your data analysis.
- Transforming raw data into engineering insights: You'll develop scripts and tools to process, analyze, and visualize large datasets from our test benches, presenting clear, actionable findings to the design and engineering teams.
- Building our data analysis foundation: You will design and implement the frameworks for structured data acquisition, analysis, and reporting within the Testing team, creating a robust system from the ground up.
- Driving design improvements: By identifying patterns, correlations, and anomalies in test data, you will directly influence the development and optimization of our CO2 capture technology.
- Championing data-driven decisions: You’ll translate complex data stories into understandable language, helping the entire team appreciate the 'why' behind your insights and recommendations.
Requirements
What we’re looking for
- An educational background in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Mechanical, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or similar).
- 1-3 years of experience in a hands-on testing, R&D, or product development environment, with a strong focus on data processing and analysis. Experience in a New Product Introduction (NPI) context is a major plus.
- Strong proficiency with a scripting language for data analysis, preferably Python (with libraries like Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib/Plotly) or MATLAB.
- Hands-on experience with test hardware, sensors (e.g., thermocouples, pressure sensors, flow meters), and data acquisition (DAQ) systems is highly desirable.
- A self-starter mentality with an entrepreneurial spirit; you are excited by the challenge of building new processes and capabilities from scratch.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical insights to colleagues from different disciplines.
- Proficiency in the English language.
- You live in The Netherlands, within commuting distance from Amsterdam (or are willing to relocate).
- What you can expect
- Apart from working with great colleagues and a competitive package, you can also expect:
