About The Role

Our External Communications Department unites key community-facing and enabling functions within the Communications Portfolio. It is responsible for representing The Salvation Army to government, media, and the wider community, while also providing corps with essential communications support across day-to-day operations and peak periods. The department’s primary goal is to build awareness, trust, and engagement with the community, donors, partners, media, and government.

As the External Communications Office Coordinator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the External Communications function in Tasmania.

The role is permanent, full time position based at our Hobart office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing high-level administrative support to the External Communications Manager, including managing calendars, travel, correspondence, meeting minutes and documentation.
  • Supporting the planning and end-to-end delivery of events such as community outreach activities, fundraising campaigns, internal workshops, and media events.
  • Developing and implementing a state-based social media content plan in collaboration with the National Social Media Team, managing posts, monitoring engagement, and responding to enquiries.
  • Coordinating stakeholder engagement, including liaising with media, government representatives, community partners, and internal teams.
  • Managing finance and office administration tasks, including raising invoices, expense reconciliation, maintaining promotional materials, and coordinating internal communications with local Corps and teams.

  • Skilled at providing high-quality administrative support, with excellent attention to detail and a solutions-focused approach.
  • Tech-savvy, with confidence using Microsoft Office, Canva, and major social media platforms.
