About the FCA and team

In SPC, we oversee firms and individuals (supervision), create and review the rules by which they operate (policy) and identify and remedy ineffective competition in markets (competition). Sitting in the Payments and Digital Assets directorate, the Cross-Cutting Market Analysis and Strategy department develops sector wide strategies and provides the analysis and data needed to identify risks, opportunities and trends to support supervision and policy making.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Delivering strategic workstreams that shape the FCA’s approach to payments and digital assets - driving innovation and regulatory clarity in a rapidly evolving sector
  • Undertake horizon scanning and market and sector analysis to identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities that enables proactive, informed outcomes to help consumers and supports market integrity
  • Build and maintain influential relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders including regulators, trade bodies, and industry specialists to collaboratively advance policy development and regulatory outcomes
  • Research and analyse complex information to produce high quality written reports and presentations with actionable insights and recommendations, deepening the FCA’s expertise in payments and digital assets and shaping future regulatory direction
  • Deliver engaging training, advice, briefings to FCA colleagues, supporting and empowering them with the knowledge to navigate crypto-related issues effectively

Skills Required:

Minimum:

  • Experience working in financial services or in another sector for a regulator or public body   
  • Prior experience of analysing data and making well informed recommendations
  • Experience of stakeholder management

Essential:

  • Knowledge of the payments or digital assets sectors and an adaptive /keen learner
  • Excellent analytical capabilities, supporting robust recommendations - you will be proficient at analysing complex information or data; and exercising robust, consistent judgements that balance a range of opposing factors
  • Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills, using sound judgement and escalating issues appropriately
  • Experience in managing projects, including managing ambiguity
  • Ability to work at pace and under pressure, working self-directed and in a team, and manage several work streams simultaneously
