Preble Street’s Food Services help meet the nutritional needs of our community members through our Food Security Hub, Mobile Food Services, Food Pantry, and shelter-based meal service sites. Preble Street has adapted how it provides food services to effectively meet the food needs of people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity—and our team of food services professionals work together in our innovative Food Programs toward achieving our goals to address and end hunger in our communities.
A full-time Sous Chef position with the Hope House team is currently available. The Hope House Sous Chef has an active and hands-on role in supporting the Chef in all activities required for the delivery of high-quality food services, including menu planning, preparing and packaging meals, inventory management and control, maintaining safety and cleanliness of the kitchen, providing training and guidance of kitchen staff and volunteers, and leading kitchen activities in the Chef’s absence.
The schedule for this position is Sunday-Thursday 8am - 4:30pm
Qualifications
- Significant experience in food service and commercial kitchen operations; culinary training or education preferred
- Alignment with Preble Street’s mission and social, economic, and food justice.
- Ability to maintain a clean and efficient kitchen operation while overseeing that all meals are prepared properly and served on time
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to train and provide task guidance in food preparation and kitchen operations to volunteers and staff
- Consistent, reliable attendance as scheduled is also required, with the ability and flexibility to work a different and/or extended shifts to meet program operational needs.
- Ability to perform work in according to safety rules and practices.
- The ability to drive a small cargo truck, with a valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record, is helpful.
- ServSafe certification (must be obtained within 60 days of hire and continuously maintained thereafter)
Compensation & Benefits
This position has a full-time schedule (40 hour/week) and offers an hourly rate of pay of $23.23. Generous paid time off, insurance, and retirement plan benefits include:
- 4 weeks (160 hours, accrued) vacation time, 12 days (96 hours, accrued) sick time, 32 hours personal time, 12 Paid Holidays
