The Role
We are seeking an experienced and talented Sommelier with a refined palate who embodies a genuine passion for exceptional wines. As a member of our close-knit and dynamic Front of House team, you will collaborate with some of the finest professionals in the industry.
In addition to showcasing your expertise in wine selection and service, you will play a vital role in managing and organising our wine program. Your knowledge and experience will also be shared with our FOH team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
Your Day-To-Day:
- Offer knowledgeable and personalised wine recommendations to guests, considering their preferences, budget and menu choices.
- Deliver an exceptional all-round experience to guests while supporting the team and providing direct service on the floor.
- Assist the head sommelier with the wine list maintenance
- Manage the wine inventory, ensuring accurate stock levels and proper storage.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure seamless food and wine pairing, considering the flavour profiles, textures and aromas of both.
- Conduct regular tastings and research to expand your expertise and stay updated on current wine trends and emerging producers.
- Train and educate FOH staff members on wine service, proper storage and wine pairing techniques.
- Ensure the ongoing upkeep, presentation, and maintenance of the cellar and list.
- Maximise sales
Our Successful Candidate Will Have:
- Proven experience as a sommelier in a restaurant of a similar calibre.
- An extensive knowledge of wines, wine regions, varietals and vintages.
- A strong understanding of food and wine pairing principles, flavour profiles and culinary trends.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with guests, explain wine selections and build rapport.
- A demonstrated ability to curate and manage a diverse and well-rounded wine list.
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to details to maintain our wine inventory, monitor stock levels and place orders.
- A proactive and can do personality while being punctual, diligent, and reliable
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
- A WSET, CMS or similar wine-related qualification will be highly regarded.
