Position Summary
This position is accountable for leading Orion’s efforts in advancing concrete technology, sustainability initiatives, and material innovation across all regions and project types. The Concrete Technology & Sustainability Manager develops and implements strategies to improve mix design efficiency, reduce embodied carbon, enhance performance, and ensure compliance with all industry standards and environmental regulations.
The incumbent will work closely with project teams, engineers, and material suppliers to promote sustainable construction practices, support research and development, and ensure Orion remains at the forefront of concrete performance and sustainability excellence.
The position requires strong technical expertise in concrete materials, proactive leadership, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Specific Responsibilities
- Lead development, optimization, and standardization of concrete mix designs for various applications (structural, mass, marine, and architectural).• Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to evaluate and qualify materials such as SCMs, admixtures, and recycled content for improved sustainability and performance.• Implement carbon reduction strategies and life-cycle assessments (LCA) to support Orion’s sustainability goals.• Establish and maintain a concrete technology database including performance data, testing results, and best practices.• Serve as the technical subject matter expert for troubleshooting mix performance, placement, and durability issues on projects.• Develop and lead internal training programs on concrete technology, sustainability practices, and quality control for field and management personnel.• Partner with estimating and operations to assess material selection and design alternatives for cost and sustainability benefits.• Represent Orion in industry committees, research partnerships, and sustainability initiatives (e.g., ACI, NRMCA, or local green building councils).• Support implementation of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), LEED, Envision, or other green certification requirements.• Ensure compliance with all applicable ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, and DOT standards.• Track emerging technologies in low-carbon cement, alternative binders, and carbon capture integration to recommend pilot applications.• All employees, current and former, must maintain confidentiality by not disclosing to others any confidential, proprietary, or trade secret information belonging to the Company.

Position Requirements
A minimum of 8–10 years of experience in concrete materials engineering, quality management, or sustainability in construction is required. Advanced knowledge of cement chemistry, mix design optimization, and sustainability frameworks is essential.
- Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Strong knowledge of ASTM, ACI, and AASHTO testing standards.
- Proven experience in developing and optimizing concrete mix designs for various structural applications.
- Experience with sustainability assessments, embodied carbon measurement tools, and environmental reporting platforms.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and regions.
- Proficient in mix design and materials management software (e.g., Command Alkon, Sysdyne, Excel-based systems).
- Preferred certifications: ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician, NRMCA Green Concrete Professional, or equivalent.
Physical/Mental Requirements
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and the location.
This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate and executive.
The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency arise.
