Welcome to HotDoc! đź‘‹
Founded in Melbourne in 2012, HotDoc is Australia’s leading patient engagement platform, supporting over 4,000 medical centres and enabling more than 12 million Australians to better connect with their healthcare.
We’re on a mission to create the best possible patient experience for everyone in Australia. Our platform helps clinics run smoothly, reduce admin burdens, and ultimately deliver better health patient outcomes.
We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our team. It’s a hands-on role designing experiences that make a real difference in how Australians access and receive healthcare.
Role Purpose & Context
As a Senior Product Designer in our Virtual Care team, you’ll shape how patients access care beyond the clinic — from on-demand telehealth consultations to routine requests and marketplace search. You will build features that impact the lives of patients and healthcare practitioners across Australia.
You’ll be involved in every step of the product design process, from discovery and research through to crafting delightful, intuitive experiences that drive a strategic outcome.
This is a hands-on role with plenty of scope for influence — you’ll help design simple, accessible, and high-quality product experiences that support both patient care and clinic efficiency. You will contribute to design leadership and execution, grow your product thinking, and bring creativity to solving real problems in healthcare.
In This Role You Will:
- Lead design for the Virtual Care Team, from discovery to delivery
- Conduct and synthesise research that will inform your design decisions
- Design, prototype and test end-to-end experiences for the HotDoc mobile app, desktop app and GP Sidebar.
- Collaborate with engineers and PMs to ship high-quality, usable and validated solutions.
- Contribute to HotDoc’s design system and elevate the craft quality across the mission-based teams.
- Present and communicate your design rationale clearly, building alignment with stakeholders.
Why Join Hotdoc?
Join a purpose-driven team where your work directly impacts practices and patients across Australia. As our Senior Product Designer, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring every interaction with HotDoc drives better care.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Exciting challenges, impactful work: Be part of innovative projects that improve the patient experience and streamline practice operations. Every day, you’ll see how your efforts contribute to better healthcare outcomes.
- Collaborative environment: Work with a talented and supportive team that thrives on shared successes and continuous improvement.
- Autonomy with Support: Enjoy the flexible working environment where autonomy and trust are the norm.
What will you be doing?
No day is the same in this role, but in a typical month, you will be responsible for the following:
- Turn complex problems into simple, intuitive experiences that help practitioners provide care and make it easy for patients to access care
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Data teams to navigate trade-offs between product, technical, and user needs.
- Interview GPs and patients regularly to validate opportunities and shape the Virtual Care roadmap.
- Map end-to-end user journeys and service touchpoints to help the team see the full patient and practitioner experience, uncovering critical moments in the journey.
- Balance diverse stakeholder perspectives with openness and collaboration, finding alignment around shared outcomes.
- Create and test prototypes to validate designs early and reduce development risk.
- Lead design reviews to share work, gather feedback, and build alignment.
- Prepare designs for delivery — including specs, edge cases, and clear documentation to support a smooth build.
What you must have to apply for this role
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Designer working on complex, multi-platform products
- Experience working in B2B2C, Saas or marketplace environments
- A portfolio with 2-3 case studies showcasing process, outcomes, and systems thinking
- Expertise in Figma
- Strong interaction and visual design skills
- Proven ability to lead projects end-to-end and drive clarity in ambiguity
- Strong communication skills—you can explain your design decisions and welcome feedback.
You’re just the person we’re looking for if you can demonstrate that
- You’re mission-driven, with a genuine passion for improving patient outcomes and healthcare experiences.
- You bring empathy and curiosity to your work, always asking the right questions to uncover user needs.
- You’re proactive, taking ownership of scoped projects and following through to delivery.
- You’re adaptable and resilient in a fast-moving environment, open to iteration and change.
- You collaborate openly, building trust and valuing diverse perspectives in problem-solving.
- You’re eager to grow your craft, continuously learning and applying feedback to get better.
