Summary

We are currently seeking a Nursing Director to join Patient Care Operations team. This full time role will work days.  Preferred candidates will have strong Director experience with strong throughput and staffing/scheduling background.

Purpose of this position: Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) / Executive VP of Patient Care Services, the Nursing Director supports strategic and operational leadership across the organization. The Nursing Director assists in driving performance improvement, financial outcomes, and a results-oriented, service-focused culture. 

The Nursing Director has oversight for assigned patient care areas or initiatives and collaborates with executive leadership to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and vision.

Responsibilities

  • Develops long-range, strategic, and operational plans to ensure that patient care, programs, staff development and operational objectives of Hennepin Health System (HHS) are being achieved. Integrates the vision, mission, and strategic plans of HHS into planning
  • Assures effective operation and integration of clinical and educational resources within areas of accountability. Monitors, assesses and improves services, quality and performance
  • Establishes success indicators and expectations for the services provided including clinical and quality outcomes, patient and staff satisfaction, and monitors performance against these indicators
  • Assumes director accountability for the overall functioning within patient care areas
  • Directs the planning and daily operations of the departments assigned
  • Fosters accountability for individual performance and department outcomes. Demonstrates leadership behaviors that support direct reports and staff to take responsibility, authority and accountability for decision making
  • Establishes an environment that promotes teamwork within and across clinical areas and hospital, identifies team and individual developmental opportunities and encourages individual contributions to overall team effectiveness. Provides clear expectations and standards of accountability to ensure consistency with the organizational mission and vision as well as professional practice guidelines
  • Assumes responsibility for the preparation, review, and management of reporting department budgets to meet or exceed budgetary expectations
  • Establishes and maintains systems to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards relative to professional competency and education and other departments of oversight
  • Represents Patient Care Services on internal and external committees and project responsibilities and other assignments as deemed appropriate by the Chief Nursing Executive/Chief Nursing Officer
  • Utilizes quality improvement techniques for driving improvement in patient care and clinical outcomes as well as programmatic service delivery
  • Interacts with clinical leaders to identify common issues and concerns; participates in creative problem solving; and identifies own needs for growth and development
  • Provides guidance and staff development to enhance the knowledge and skills of clinical staff
  • Provides expert consultation and facilitation to impact processes and outcomes of patient care
  • Represent HHS administration on internal and external committees and projects as assigned

Patient Care Operations Nursing Director:

Job Summary:

The Patient Care Operations Nursing Director is an experienced nursing leader responsible for driving operational excellence across patient throughput, administrative nursing supervision, staffing and scheduling, and care transitions. This role ensures efficient patient flow, optimal resource utilization, and seamless coordination of care across departments. The Director provides strategic oversight of the Administrative Nursing Supervisor team and staffing operations, leveraging data-driven decision-making to support high-quality, cost-effective nursing care. A key member of the nursing leadership team, this role partners with interdisciplinary leaders to enhance care delivery, reduce delays, and improve patient outcomes, while maintaining alignment with organizational priorities and regulatory standards.

  

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or a related health care field
  • Five (5) years of clinical and management experience in nursing or related area.

  • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Administrative Nursing Supervisor experience or oversight of
  • Leadership experience in throughput enhancement(s)
  • 1+ year of Clinical Director experience in an acute care hospital setting
  • Doctorate degree in nursing preferred.

  • Knowledge of current health care systems and ability align organizational goals and outcomes

  • Ability to quickly and easily adapt to the culture and norms of the organization and be accountable for organizational information. Passion for patient care and ability to use passion as a driver for positive change
  • Maintains current knowledge of the field including performance improvement methodology and applications. Applies performance improvement / LEAN methodology and tools
  • Understands cultural and process change theories and uses this knowledge to achieve results

License/Certifications

  • Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse without restrictions issued by the State of Minnesota
  • Specialty certification in nursing required upon hire or within one year of employment.
