Job Summary

As the Executive Director of Compliance, Conduct and Operational Risk (CCOR) within the Firmwide Resilience & Simulations Oversight group, you will coordinate global, strategic risk oversight of end-to-end resiliency at JP Morgan Chase, working across the 1st and 2nd Lines of Defense. You will leverage your in-depth understanding of operational risk management and control, including business, technology, cyber, third-party, site, and data resiliency domains, as well as resiliency simulations and incident response. In this leadership role, you will inspire and empower the resiliency risk team and collaborate with other CCOR horizontal and Line of Defense partners to manage operational risks affecting the firm’s operational resiliency environment. Additionally, you will engage with other specialist areas to provide effective risk assessment, challenge, and informed consultation. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of 2nd Line of Defense (LOD) operational risk managers responsible for providing oversight and challenge to the Firmwide Resiliency and Firmwide Technology Resiliency Teams. 
  • Independently assess end to end resiliency risks through quantitative and qualitative means, including providing advice and guidance on the development and implementation of risk management activities, including the application of full-scale risk frameworks and risk assessments. 
  • Analyze and report metrics (KRIs/KPIs) to various committees and forums to assess risk and generate efficiencies. Perform horizontal resiliency risk thematic analysis, risk and assessment activities across all resiliency aligned risk domains. 
  • Increase business, technology/cybersecurity, third-party, site, and data resiliency by independently assessing incident response and crisis management practices. Assess simulation exercises with global and regional stakeholders, both internal and external to the bank. 
  • Oversee and challenge the Resiliency Risk and Control Evaluation Framework used to assess the firm’s ability to prepare for, prevent, withstand, adapt to and recovery from operational disruptions from all threats and hazards. 
  • Engage industry associations to assess if firm practices align with industry standards and best practices and, along with 1st Line of Defense partners socialize firm considerations.
  • Coordinate with other elements of the CCOR Resiliency Risk team, Line of Business/Corporate Function (LOB/CF) Operational Risk Officers and Technology Operational Risk Managers to provide horizontal oversight of  LOB/CF resiliency related risks. 
  • Build strong relationships and work collaboratively across other CCOR LOBs/CF operational risk coverage teams to ensure dissemination of appropriate knowledge, information, and tools to assess and challenge all elements of the firmwide resiliency framework; Engage with key stakeholders regularly and provide consistent and comprehensive status of resiliency risk gaps and remediation activities. 
  • Perform periodic independent review and challenge of relevant material risks that are identified by LOBs and CFs. 
  • Provide 2LOD visibility of natural and manmade threats and hazards that may affect firm assets. 
  • Prepare and deliver written and verbal communications on risk and control assessment results to senior audiences within the firm. 

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills:

  • The role requires a strong self-starter, leader and manager who can identify and implement strategic program objectives, understand risks and the associated mitigating resiliency controls using a consistent, logical approach to independently assess and challenge the 1LOD operational resiliency environment.
  • 15+ years or more proven experience in Operational Risk, Technology/Cybersecurity Risk, Third Party Risk, Business Continuity Management, Disaster Recovery or Physical Security, programs.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with high-performing teams and individuals throughout the firm to accomplish common goals
  • University degree in a business, finance, technology, security, justice, law, or audit, ideally combined with further education in Control Management or Operational Risk or related fields 
  • Sound experience in leading a 1LOD or 2LOD operational risk or control management role, combined with a strong background in operational resilience risks including, but not limited to, business continuity risk, technology and cyber resiliency risks, third party risk, site resiliency or other emerging risk domains 
  • Familiarity with resiliency related industry standards and guidelines: ISO 22301, CERT RMM, FFIEC, and ITIL with professional Certification such as MBCI, CBCP and other relevant industry certification 
  • Strong organizational leadership, project management, and multi-tasking skills with demonstrated ability to manage expectations and deliver results
  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment
  • Highly disciplined, able to work with limited supervision and make independent decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully communicate complex and nuanced topics orally and in writing across multiple levels in the organization.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Strong desire to lead in a multidisciplinary environment across operational risk domains 
  • Track record of collaboration and relationship building 
  • High level of professionalism, self-motivation, and sense of urgency 
  • Experience in leading diverse, federated teams, ability to effectively collaborate across organizational boundaries and facilitate open communication between teams 
  • Ability to challenge 1LOD in order to ensure maintenance of risk appetite and tolerance levels, driving issue management where required 
  • Familiarity with the financial services industry and a strong understanding of processes and associated business controls with a solution-oriented mindset, excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills 
  • Professional memberships or certifications such Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), or related is preferred
