Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Neuroscience or closely related field. At least three (3) years of research experience in studying cortical activity in either the gustatory cortex or in the anterior lateral motor cortex of behaving mice with imaging and/or electrophysiological approaches.

- PhD or MD in Neuroscience, Psychology, Imaging, Electrophysiology or Behavior.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. Alfredo Fontanini in the department of Neurobiology & Behavior. The incumbent will develop, design and run research experiments and ensure that all research protocols follow the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
The Postdoctoral Researcher will be responsible for running research projects and contributing to research and operations in the laboratory in the Fontanini Lab. The incumbent will develop and design research experiments in the field of motor control of orofacial movements and gustatory neurobiology. They will conduct research experiments utilizing specialized techniques, including 2-photon calcium imaging, photometry, electrophysiological recordings, opto/chemogenetics, behavioral training and testing, histological and viral approaches; applying theories, concepts and principles in the field of neuroscience, chemosensation, motor control, decision making, learning and memory and ingestive behaviors. The incumbent will provide training on specific specialized skills and research methods, and will contribute to running operations in the lab. In addition, the position will provide support in management of safety practices, management of controlled substances, maintenance of animal colonies and assistance in the administrative aspects associated.
Duties:
● Develop and design research experiments in the field of motor control of orofacial movements and gustatory neurobiology. Conduct research experiments utilizing specialized techniques, including 2-photon calcium imaging, photometry, electrophysiological recordings, opto/chemogenetics, behavioral training and testing, histological and viral approaches; applying theories, concepts and principles in the field of neuroscience, chemosensation, motor control, decision making, learning and memory and ingestive behaviors.
● Prepare manuscripts for publications in peer reviewed and/or scientific journals as well as prepare public presentations at scientific conferences.
● Contribute to the overall management of the lab, may supervise and train graduate students (MS and PhD), incoming postdoctoral associate and research support positions. Will provide training on specific specialized skills and research methods, and is responsible for the operation of the lab. In addition, the position will provide assistance to Dr. Fontanini in management of safety practices, management of controlled substances, maintenance of animal colonies and assistance in the administrative aspects associated.
● Assist with grant proposals; support the PI in applying for grants as well as apply for grants, to include writing proposals for the research projects, identifying funding sources, and training opportunities.
● Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.
