Payroll Adviser – Ocado Logistics | Payroll Delivery & System Transformation

Hatfield, Hybrid - 2x days a week onsite

2x roles available: 1x permanent + 1x 12 month FTC

Keeping pay accurate, compliant, and on time for thousands of colleagues – that’s where you come in.

At Ocado Logistics, we’re powering the future of online grocery logistics. Behind every shift, every delivery, and every innovation are people who make it all work – and a payroll team ensuring they’re paid correctly, every time.

We’re looking for two Payroll Advisers to join our experienced Payroll Operations team. A core part of this role will see you taking ownership of your own payroll area (12,000 colleagues), managing day-to-day delivery while helping to shape the future of how we run payroll at Ocado. From maintaining business-as-usual (BAU) excellence to supporting transformation projects, you’ll play a key role in keeping payroll running smoothly today - and making it even better for tomorrow.

Why Ocado Logistics?

Ready to own your own payroll area — and help shape what payroll looks like tomorrow?

Our Payroll team are currently going through an exciting transformation of payroll systems, which means this role isn’t just about delivering BAU payroll - it’s about contributing to the future of how we pay, support, and engage our people. You’ll be involved in system improvements, process redesign, and user testing, helping to create a more efficient and seamless payroll experience for everyone at Ocado Logistics.

You’ll have full autonomy and accountability to handle the end-to-end payroll process for one of our largest payrolls of around 12,000 employees — from data validation and pay calculations to HMRC submissions and reconciliations. Every detail matters.

It’s not just processing — it’s owning payroll delivery from start to finish.

We’re looking for someone who knows payroll inside out — someone with hands-on, end-to-end experience gained in a busy, medium to large business with hourly paid teams. You might be a Payroll Adviser or Specialist ready for more ownership, confident running high-volume payrolls, solving problems, and spotting opportunities to make things better.

What you’ll be doing

  • Processing and delivering accurate, compliant payrolls from start to finish.
  • Managing your own daily operations: checking data, auditing reports, reconciling control accounts, and producing third-party payments.
  • Taking full accountability for HMRC deadlines, including monthly RTI submissions.
  • Supporting supplementary payrolls, incentive payments, bonuses, pensions, and other variables.
  • Ensuring all payroll processes comply with HMRC legislation, GDPR, and Ocado Group’s internal controls.
  • Collaborating with the People Team, Finance, and our third-party providers to ensure a smooth, high-quality service.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in end-to-end UK payroll processing, ideally within a medium or large organisation, with hourly paid employee experience.
  • Experience with Oracle as essential
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, statutory payments (PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, etc.), and compliance requirements.
  • Confident using payroll systems and Excel for data validation and reconciliation.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a drive for 100% accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive queries with professionalism and empathy.
  • CIPP qualification (or working towards it) would be an advantage.
  • What you’ll get in return
