Description
Estimator:
The Estimator Will Be A Crucial Team Member With Responsibility For Bringing In New Work By Providing Winning Estimates For Project Proposals. This Individual Is Responsible For Evaluating Bid Specifications And Drawings, And Gathering All Necessary Information To Successfully Bid On And Win New Projects. Estimators Must Build And Nurture Relationships With Suppliers And Subcontractors To Ensure We Are Getting The Best Possible Prices, Work With Project Managers To Ensure All Factors Are Taken Into Account When Preparing An Estimate, And Collaborate With The Proposal Team To Ensure Estimates Are Submitted On Time And In The Required Format.
Duties And Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)
- Bid Development:
- Prepare and maintain status of plan reproduction
- Solicit and maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors
- Prepare subcontractor bid packages
- Transmit addenda and other bid information to subcontractors
- Ensure that we have the proper coverage from subcontractors on bid day
- Contact supply houses to obtain additional subcontractor bids
- Show creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing from subcontractors
- Submit 100% of bids and budgets by the bid deadline without exception
- Enter all relevant information into Timberline
Project Knowledge:
- Review RFPs thoroughly and ask follow-up questions to ensure a detailed understanding of the scope of work
- Develop relevant requests for information to ensure adequate knowledge of project requirements and to minimize exclusions
- Perform a comprehensive "bid day” analysis and scoping of specific assigned trades
- Understand how to fit subcontractors to the size and scope of project
- Create bid lists that fit scope of job, ensuring that we have the right subcontractors for the project
- Project Turnover:
- Properly turn over bid documents and subcontractor buyout information to Project Management in a timely manner.
- Review drawings with Project Management team and highlight areas of concern
- Participate in Project Management team review to ensure comprehensive subcontractor and materials vendor review
- Participate in project kick-off to ensure final compliance
- - Understand how to fit subcontractors to the size and scope of project

Education And Experience
- At least 5 years of previous experience with Federal DOD contracts
- Expert user with at least 10 years’ experience with Timberline
- A Master’s degree and four or more years of construction-related experience; or
- A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management/Engineering and 5-7 years of construction related experience; or
- An Associate’s degree and 7-10 years of construction-related experience; or
- A High School diploma and 15 or more years of construction and/or related experience
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Ability to assume responsibility and communicate effectively with others
- Thorough knowledge of construction concepts
- Thorough knowledge of company procedures, estimating techniques, cost control systems, and accounts
- Ability to estimate all types of projects/contracts, plus the ability to coordinate and supervise group work is essential
- Ability to work independently
- Must be able to speak Japanese fluently
- Reports directly to the Director of Project Controls
- Light physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials
- Regularly required to sit or stand, bend, and reach
- Requirement to drive on company business and be available for travel
