Job Description
This position will report to the Avery Dennison Oshawa, ON location each morning unless scheduled for onsite service requirements. Mileage will be paid when driving to and from a customer's location. When driving to the Oshawa, ON Electronic Repair Center, mileage will not be paid, so applicants should live in close proximity to the facility. We anticipate that 70% of their hours will be spent in the depot and 30% in the field performing onsite services.
- Perform in-house repairs and servicing at the Oshawa Electronic Repair Center (ERC) and conduct onsite customer repairs (e.g., handheld, tabletop, or other labeling printing products), including disassembling and building print heads and subassemblies.
- Report to the Avery Dennison Oshawa depot repair center daily unless onsite service is required, in which case travel to the customer site from home is permitted.
- Execute cleaning, lubrication, and other preventive maintenance tasks as needed.
- Test and adjust machinery to ensure full functionality.
- Inspect completed repairs thoroughly.
- Manage the movement of parts stock to and from the work area.
- Maintain high customer satisfaction by promptly responding to and resolving urgent service requests within company objectives and performing timely follow-up.
- Consistently adhere to safety protocols concerning oneself, co-workers, and manufacturing systems.
- Actively contribute to and participate in team decision-making.
- Support safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Learn and apply software applications and diagnostic programs as required.
- Perform receiving and/or shipping tasks for outgoing repaired products to customers as directed.
- Locate and diagnose failures, replace defective components, and perform basic troubleshooting using standard equipment and verbal/written instructions, following illustrated parts breakdowns and service manuals for proper disassembly and reassembly.
- Promptly respond to all customer service requests and schedule on-site visits as needed.
- Provide installation, warranty, preventive, problem diagnosis, corrective maintenance, and training to customers.
- Prioritize meeting customer expectations.
- Repair Model 9855, ADTP1 and other third-party tabletop thermal printers (e.g., replace covers, electrical boards, rollers, printheads, sensors, damaged parts, wiring harnesses).
- Update printer firmware when required.
- Repair Model 9876 mobile carts (e.g., replace batteries, electrical boards, damaged frames, damaged or defective wheels).
- Repair handheld and desktop printers at the Oshawa, ON Electronic Repair Center (ERC).
- Utilize required tools such as electric screwdrivers, manual screwdrivers, Allen keys, T-handles, voltage meters (VOM), hammers (for wheels and axles), open-end wrenches, Isopropyl Alcohol, and canned air for cleaning equipment.
- Occasionally use a custom-made cart lift tool for lifting and balancing carts to facilitate wheel and axle replacement.
- Occasionally use a small hand truck for moving batteries during cart repairs.
- Confirm proper functioning and optimal performance of printers/carts upon completion of repairs.
- Check in with customers before leaving the site to confirm all issues are resolved.
- Maintain up-to-date technical skills on all hardware and software products.
- Manage parts inventory and order parts as needed.
- Promptly report product operating abnormalities and/or failures and obtain samples for evaluation.
- Document, maintain, track, and report all required service-related information daily within the Oracle service module.
Qualifications
- Associate's (2-year) degree in Electronic/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 4–6 years of related experience.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Skilled in organizing and prioritizing workloads and schedules.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in controlling equipment or system operations.
- Unwavering focus on safety at all times.
- Aptitude for determining appropriate tools and equipment for various tasks.
- Ability to comprehend work-related documents.
- Experience in conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
- Understanding of and experience with information systems environments and systems.
- Ability to identify equipment malfunctions or potential failures.
