Job Description
Position Overview
The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for leading and participating in the day-to-day janitorial and housekeeping operations at a high-traffic retail property. This working supervisor oversees a small team of employees to ensure the property remains clean, safe, and welcoming for visitors, tenants, and the community. The Supervisor coordinates staff schedules, performs hands-on cleaning and upkeep, maintains equipment, and serves as the on-site point of contact for company management and the property’s operations staff.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
- Supervise and work alongside a team of housekeeping staff to meet cleanliness and maintenance standards.
- Plan, assign, and adjust daily and weekly schedules to ensure consistent coverage across all areas of the property.
- Conduct daily inspections, correct deficiencies, and document work completion.
- Train, coach, and motivate team members on cleaning techniques, safety, and customer service.
- Ensure all staff comply with uniform and appearance standards.
Housekeeping Operations
- Oversee and participate in cleaning of common areas, restrooms, seating areas, and management offices. • Maintain and verify restroom cleaning logs, inspection sheets, and other documentation. • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly tasks are completed according to schedule. • Monitor supply inventory and coordinate reorders to maintain readiness.
- Operate and supervise the use of equipment such as utility vehicles, pressure washers, street sweepers, and blowers. • Perform and assist with removing graffiti, cleaning signage, etc. • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and serviced in coordination with management. • Follow environmental and safety standards when using cleaning chemicals and degreasers.
Client Communication & Coordination
- Act as the primary on-site contact for property management staff.
- Communicate updates, special requests, and maintenance issues promptly and professionally.
- Coordinate with property management to support events and seasonal activities by adjusting staff schedules and tasks as needed.
- Submit out-of-scope work requests or schedule changes for approval prior to implementation.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce workplace safety standards and ensure proper use of PPE by all staff.
- Maintain organized supply and equipment storage areas.
- Respond to spills, biohazard cleanups, and post-storm debris removal when needed.
- Promote a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of janitorial or housekeeping experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Proven ability to manage small teams and coordinate multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Hands-on experience with janitorial tools, power equipment, and cleaning systems.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with property management, tenants, and visitors.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Flexible availability, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Other Requirements
- Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Able to pass a criminal background check and drug test
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Additional Information
Work Schedule
- Full-time position, typically 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM, with flexibility for events and special projects.
- Occasional weekend and holiday work required.
