The People Team is seeking a meticulous and dependable Payroll Specialist to join our People Team. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of global payroll, maintaining compliance with applicable laws and internal policies, and supporting related payroll operations. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of payroll regulations, excellent analytical skills, and a customer-service mindset. This person thrives in deadline-driven environments and can effectively manage recurring payroll cycles across various time zones and countries.

The role will be reporting to Director, HR Ops and Payroll

Responsibilities:

  • Process bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payroll for all employees across multiple countries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in line with local requirements and internal deadlines
  • Review, audit, and validate payroll data including timesheets, benefit deductions, commissions, bonuses, and other compensation inputs
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of new hires, terminations, pay changes, bonuses, commissions, and other compensation-related actions
  • Maintain and update payroll records in the HRIS and/or payroll system with the highest level of confidentiality and data integrity
  • Collaborate with People and Accounting teams to ensure proper flow and maintenance of employee data and payroll accounting
  • Reconcile payroll outputs, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate funding and reporting
  • Support employee inquiries related to payroll, compensation, and tax documentation in a timely and professional manner
  • Assist with tax reporting, year-end processes, and distribution of W-2s or equivalent forms
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable wage and hour laws, including FLSA and state-specific requirements
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and reports
  • Serve as a backup and assist with employee onboarding activities as needed, ensuring a smooth and compliant new hire experience
  • Stay informed on changes in international payroll laws, tax codes, and employment regulations, and make recommendations for compliance updates or process improvements

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in payroll processing or a related role
  • Preferred working knowledge of multi-country payroll processes (e.g. US, CAN, Costa Rica, UK, Germany, Australia)
  • Experience with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Gusto, UKG, Workday, or similar) and HRIS platforms
  • High diligence and accuracy in handling sensitive financial and personal data
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proven ability to manage and meet recurring payroll deadlines (monthly, bi-weekly, and quarterly) across multiple countries with accuracy and efficiency
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism
  • Strong Excel skills — VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, etc.
