About The Role
The New York Times is looking for a Trust & Safety Manager for Games to support a new multiplayer game. This contract role can be remote or based in New York.
This is an opportunity to work on a new game from NYT Games. This new game includes multiplayer chat and player vs. player experiences. You will be part of the team that gets these features off the ground with trust & safety at the core of the development goals. Help us build a safe and enjoyable gaming experience for all our players.
You'll be part of a fast-growing and independent team at The New York Times. You'll have the chance to influence the future of trust & safety in a new app and to shape a new community from the ground up. This role involves analyzing reported content, investigating incidents and responding to players. Beyond day to day operations you will also be expected to provide guidance to aid in product development.
This is a temporary position through March 2026 with the potential to go full time, depending on the success of the game. You will report to the Executive Producer, Games.
Responsibilities:
- Moderate trust & safety flags from players to determine appropriate responses to harmful behavior
- Apply community guidelines and enforcement protocols consistently
- Document findings clearly and consistently
- Collaborate with the product development team to refine algorithms that flag behavior, develop player facing tools to help with reporting, and develop internal tools to aid your moderation work.
- Update and maintain outward facing community guidelines and internal moderation guidelines
- Create and share reports on overall player behavior with the development team
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Basic Qualifications:
- 2+ years working in content moderation, risk assessment or digital trust & safety
- Previous experience working with sensitive and potentially graphic content
- Familiarity with online gaming culture, platforms, and moderation challenges (e.g., harassment, cheating, fraud, harmful content).
- Proficient in SaaS-based collaboration tools including Amazon Connect, JIRA, and more
- Familiarity with machine learning principles
