The Maintenance Manager has a critical role in contributing to safe, efficient, and profitable field operations while complying with environmental and regulatory standards.

Roles of the Maintenance Manager

  • Leader & Decision-Maker – Oversees field maintenance, manages teams, and make key maintenance decisions with targeting no disruption to operations.
  • Strategic Planner – Support development and support maintenance strategies to maximize output and reduce downtime to operations.
  • Safety guardian and role model – Ensures compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
  • Resource Allocator – Manages manpower, equipment, and budget to optimize productivity.
  • Communications – Ensure communications with Operations and management with maintenance that could impact production and targets or production directly.
  • Problem-Solver – Quickly addresses maintenance related operational disruptions, equipment failures, or emergency situations.

Responsibilities of the Maintenance Manager

Maintenance Management.

  • Plan, organize, control and overseas maintenance activities in line with strategy.
  • Ensure Maintenance is executed in line with maintenance plans.
  • Minimize downtime and optimize use of facilities, plants, wells, and equipment.
  • Review and assess maintenance requirements for production strategies and any planned outages or TARs.
  • Manage emergent production outages to ensure most efficient resolution and restarts.
  • Monitor KPIs such as production rates, efficiency, and operating costs.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Enforce strict adherence to HSE standards and regulations.
  • Lead safety audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans.
  • Promote a safety-first culture among staff and contractors.
  • Conduct and participate in site walkdowns with team and representatives.
  • Support Emergency Response plans and exercises per requirements liaising with HSE and ERT teams.
  • Focal for maintenance critical issues, ensuring communications with site management and stakeholders. 

People & Team Management

  • Manage, supervise, motivate field staff and contractors.
  • Plan and manage manpower availability and work rotation requirements.
  • Manage disciplinary issues, conflicts, and performance reviews.
  • Promote skill development and succession planning in line with localization targets and development programs.

Financial & Resource Control

  • Prepare and manage maintenance budgets.
  • Monitor maintenance operating costs and implement cost-control measures.
  • Ensure efficient maintenance procurement and inventory management.
  • Support assessment ad approval expenditures within set limits.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with local and international oil & gas industry regulations.
  • Maintain all necessary permits, licenses, and certifications.
  • Liaise with government bodies, partners, and community stakeholders.

Technical & Maintenance Oversight

  • Coordinate with team and operations for preventive and corrective maintenance of field equipment targeting no disruption to production.
  • Facilitate process for technical modifications and upgrades.
  • Support / liaise with engineering to solve operational challenges related to equipment’s and requirements impacting production.
  • Ensure integrity of all systems from maintenance measures and strategies.

Reporting & Communication

  • Provide regular maintenance reports to senior management and stake holders.
  • Analyse maintenance completion data and suggest improvements.
  • Communicate field performance, risks, and challenges.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive innovation in field maintenance and technologies.
  • Lead initiatives for efficiency and cost reduction.
