Position Summary

This internship will consist of participating in Fire and Recreation programs on the Sam Houston National Forest in New Waverly, Tx. The participants will be assisting in burn unit prep and burn day operations in fire. Therefore they will be expected to complete required training and physical fitness test for fire. For recreation they will assist with daily operations of maintaining campgrounds and trails across the district.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Perform Dozer swamper duties for RX fire prep
Perform Chain saw swamper duties for RX fire prep.
Infrastructure protection during RX prep.
Wildlife habitat protection during RX prep.
Ignition and holding operations during RX.
Campground and trail maintenance.

Marginal Duties

General forest Clean up

Qualifications

Qualified as FFT2 includes S130/190 L-180, ICS100 and IS-700
Arduous pack test

This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Chain Saw experience or qualified as FAL3 or above
