Nuclear Medicine Technologist - Per Diem

Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patientsIn addition, this role focuses on performing the following Nuclear Medicine duties: Utilizes radiation detection to examine internal organ function and structure.   A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs.  An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical educationWorks under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation. 

Job Overview

Under the direction of the clinical supervision, performs technical aspects, stress tests and a variety of routine tests or patient procedures in the Nuclear Medicine DepartmentDemonstrates understanding of scientific principles and safe work practices associated with tests performedComplies with JCAHO, Federal and State licensing departments and other regulatory body requirementsResponsible for maintaining ALARA and required documentation for the Nuclear Medicine radiation safety program. 

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 1. Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine, Radiological Technologist program. 
  2. 2. American Registry of Radiological Technologist (AART) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification (NMTCB). 
  3. 3. One (1) year of experience as a Nuclear Medical Technologist. 
  4. 4. Nuclear Medicine Technologist License. 
  5. 5. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  6. 1. Two (2) years of experience as a Nuclear Medical Technologist. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive listOther duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 

  1. 1. Schedules patients for an efficient patient flowUpon arrival of patient, checks patient records to insure completeness of data and ascertains whether examination medications have been given.  
  2. 2. Following physicians orders, prepares and calibrates radio pharmaceuticals and injects patients, using Technetium generator and other radio nuclides, dose calibrator and manual calculationsSets up and maintains accurate records concerning amount of and types of radioactivity given to patientPositions patient relative to site specific equipment and adjusts controls as necessaryIs responsible for making sure correct images are done on the computer by giving the correct commandsBrings images to Radiologist for interpretation when completedMaintains accurate records which conform to N.R.C. regulations. 
  3. 3. Conducts proper quality control procedures on Radio-pharmaceuticals used as well as proper quality control of function of Gamma Camera and calibratorRegularly cleans and maintains nuclear medicine equipment, reporting any equipment malfunctions promptly to proper people. 
  4. 4. Uses proper technique when working with radioactive material to insure minimum exposure to patients, self and othersDoes quality control procedures, as required, and maintains proper records. 
  5. 5. Performs Radiologic examinations and related department duties as requested. 
  6. 6. Successfully deliver competent care to patients in a continuum of ages from infancy to adult with and emphasis on geriatric patients. 
  7. 7. Keeps abreast of changes and new developments in Nuclear Medicine service by reviewing journals, attending educational courses, seminars and/or professional meetings. 
  8. 8. Participates as a member of the Radiation Safety Committee 
  9. 1. Frequent standing, occasional sitting, walking, and lifting 30-35 lbs. 
  10. 2. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate radiology equipment.
