About The Opportunity

The Lecturer (education focused) role will contribute to the delivery of high-quality education across the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) programs. The successful candidate will play a key role in unit coordination, curriculum design, and multi-disciplinary teaching, ensuring seamless academic delivery and maintaining the standards expected of the DMD program.

The role reports to Professor Woosung Sohn, Chair of Population Oral Health in the University of Sydney School of Dentistry. Professor Sohn leads the research and teaching in population oral health at the Sydney Dental School and works closely with NSW Health and local health districts to develop a population oral health research strategy aligned with the state's needs and school priorities.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • undertake independent teaching and contribute to outstanding educational design, delivery and evaluation
  • coordinate a Semester 1 unit of study, ensuring high-quality oversight and delivery
  • design and deliver educational units that support student needs and meet curriculum requirements
  • contribute to multi-disciplinary, work-integrated learning units and content
  • develop and refine independent research skills under supervision
  • conduct research or scholarly activity related to teaching and learning in the discipline
  • supervise research students in accordance with faculty expectations
  • apply contemporary pedagogical practices to innovate education
  • carry out administrative tasks related to teaching and learning delivery
  • mentor and train less experienced academic staff
  • contribute to a positive and collaborative workplace culture
  • support the university and faculty strategic agenda

About You

  • APHRA registration as a dental practitioner(General dentist, Oral Health Therapist or Dental Specialist) desirablepreferably hold a PhD in dentistry equivalent research experience in dentistry and health professional education
  • demonstrated understanding of contemporary formative and summative assessment practices in the discipline and can demonstrate their successful design and delivery of these practices
  • record of excellent teaching and learning in a tertiary environment, as evidenced through feedback (from students, peers, and/or supervisor)
  • experience in health professional education, including supervising or mentoring others
  • proven ability to coordinate team activities and academic delivery
  • strong understanding of curriculum design and student-centred learning
  • demonstrated ability to contribute to multi-disciplinary and work-integrated learning
  • emerging research profile with interest in education-focused scholarship
  • commitment to mentoring and supporting academic colleagues
  • ability to contribute to a collaborative and inclusive academic environment
  • awareness of strategic priorities in higher education and dental training.
