The Shift Crew Dispatcher is responsible for assisting the Marine Personnel Department and other departments in monitoring the activities of Marine Personnel.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 10 Pemberton, North Vancouver.
This is a 12 month limited term employment.
What You'Ll Do
- Schedules and directs the crewing of all Seaspan vessels ensuring qualifications and Collective Agreement requirements are met
- Schedules Vacation and leave entitlements and will supply a variety of personnel information in this regard to Marine Payroll and other departments as required
- Apply the current Collective Agreement and personnel policies and advises Mariners on these matters
- Compiles information for personnel files, and documents minor crew disputes, evaluates Marine Personnel and advises the Manager of any issues or concerns that may arise
- Relief Crew Dispatcher provides back up for the other Personnel Assistant
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'Ll Bring
- Completion of Grade 12.
- Scheduling experience is a must.
- Previous experience in Human Resources or Industrial Relations is an asset.
- Solid working knowledge of computers and software (MS Word, Excel etc.)
- General knowledge of the towboat industry is an asset, gained from 12-18 months experience at Seaspan or similar company within the industry.
- Experience with personnel in a unionized environment is desired.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to cooperate and deal tactfully and confidentially with a substantial number of personal contacts is essential
- Proven organizational and problem solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, recognizing department deadlines
- Ability to follow established processes with excellent time management skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
Pay: Starts at $5,518.00/month (rate increases to $6,007.00/month after the probation period)
This is a unionized position and pay rate for this position are set out in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. The rate stated above is the starting rate for this position. It increases after the probationary period and continues to progress over the course of 12 months as per the collective agreement.
