Job Summary:
As the Head of Commercial Real Estate Debt Asset Management within our team, you will lead and oversee the asset management function for a $10+ billion commercial real estate debt portfolio. You will ensure effective performance, risk management, and value preservation of all debt investments, including loans, mortgages, and structured finance products secured by commercial real estate assets. Your role requires strong operational experience in managing quarterly and annual review processes, a deep understanding of valuation methodologies, loan documentation, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience. You will set the tone for relationships with both Borrowers and Investors, ensuring the highest standards of service and engagement.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute asset management strategies to ensure sound management and risk mitigation across the $10B+ commercial real estate debt portfolio, spanning low leverage senior loans to mezzanine positions and lead, mentor, and manage a team of asset managers and analysts.
- Set the tone for relationship management with Borrowers and Investors, fostering trust, transparency, and superior customer service.
- In collaboration with Senior Management, Oversee the performance of all commercial real estate debt assets, including monitoring loan covenants, borrower compliance, and collateral performance.
- Take a hands on approach to responding to investor requests for portfolio level due diligence and performance updates in a timely manner
- Manage the quarterly and annual review process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, asset valuations, and risk assessments including annual scoping of the loan portfolio monitoring activity and quarterly summarization of credit ratings updates and Identify risk in the portfolio that might lead to loan modifications, restructurings, and workouts.
- Work with the valuations team and portfolio management team to assist with the mark-to-market process for underlying collateral and debt positions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards and maintain a deep understanding of loan documents, including covenants, terms, and legal requirements. Review and assist asset managers with their calculation and tracking.
- Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and supports effective asset management and risk mitigation.
- Reporting on Asset Management matters to Real Estate Debt Oversight Committee
- Problem solving when issues arise at the loan or portfolio level and proactively manage credit risk, market risk, and operational risk within the portfolio, develop and implement risk mitigation strategies
- Serve as the primary point of contact for borrowers, and other stakeholders and communicate with Borrower, and Senior Management on payoffs, identifying opportunities to retain good loans
- Foster strong relationships and deliver a superior customer experience throughout the loan lifecycle
- Prepare and present portfolio updates, performance reports, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
- Lead onboarding and integration of new technology solutions to enhance portfolio monitoring, analytics, and customer service
Required Qualifications, Capabilities And Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 10+ years of experience in commercial real estate debt asset management, lending, or related fields.
- Team player with proven leadership and team management experience.
- Deep operational experience managing quarterly and annual review processes.
- True problem solving capability for whatever unknown issues come up.
- Strong understanding of commercial real estate valuation methodologies and loan documentation.
- Experience overseeing large, complex portfolios, including low leverage senior loans and mezzanine positions.
- Excellent customer experience and stakeholder management abilities, with a proven ability to set the tone for relationship management.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Experience with technology onboarding and process improvement.
