Profile Description

We’re seeking someone to join our team as (Associate ) Linux Administrator for The Enterprise Computing Unix Operations Level 3 team which is responsible for maintaining a centrally managed global plant running on Solaris and Linux systems. This team serves as the highest level of escalation for support. The team is further responsible for developing procedures and tools that enable Morgan Stanley distributed plant to scale effectively, by eliminating repetitive operational tasks. Unix operations is also responsible for managing the usual core infrastructure parts such as DHCP, DNS, NTP and a self-maintained global software distribution system and its filesystem backend. This team is also responsible for managing the physical system firmware and for accepting new hardware.

Unix Operations is also responsible for working with various customers in a number of different business units during outage scenarios and leveraged to assist in scaling their plant. On call support and weekend work are also part of this role. The ideal candidate will need strong communication skills and be well organized.

Enterprise Technology & Services (ETS) delivers shared technology services for Morgan Stanley supporting all business applications and end users. ETS provides capabilities for all stages of Morgan Stanley’s software development lifecycle, enabling productive coding, functional and integration testing, application releases, and ongoing monitoring and support for over 3,000 production applications. ETS also delivers all workplace technologies (desktop, mobile, voice, video, productivity, intranet/internet) in integrated configurations that boost the personal productivity of employees. Application and end user functions are delivered on a scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure composed of seamlessly integrated datacenter, network, compute, cloud, storage, and database functions.

Enterprise Computing

Enterprise Computing Products & services comprise  the Firm’s on-premises and cloud core compute infrastructure, hosting platforms and application services support. This includes foundational hardware, storage, server operating systems and virtualization through the hosting of web, database, middleware and reporting services.
These offerings are complemented by value-added management, self-service tools and authentication services.

This is Associate position that maintains the stability and reliability of the organization's infrastructure systems, ensuring optimal performance and availability to support business operations.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • At least 2 years’ relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role
  • Experience of supporting, managing and debugging large scale production environments
  • Understanding of the virtualization and microservices and physical infrastructures
  • In depth experience Linux System administration, preferably Red Hat Linux
  • Knowledge of clustering technologies preferably Veritas Cluster Server or any other similar with high availability product conception
  • Ability to read and write code on any Unix shell environment, Perl and/or Python
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, experience with host level networking and security concepts, implementation, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to debug complex problems
  • Experience with Change Management and Problem management practices
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to work well in a global team environment
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and high-pressure situations for outage handling, management or resolution

You Might Also Have:

  • Understanding of SANs and NAS Storage Devices
  • Knowledge of Veritas Cluster Server or similar high availability product
  • Veritas Volume Manager
  • VMWare
  • An understanding of Problem and Change Management Practices
